TRADE ASSISTANT

Our client a highly successful Engineering company is seeking a motivated and reliable Trade Assistant to support their busy Trade team. This hands-on role is essential to keeping their workshop running smoothly, ensuring products are prepared to their high standards, and helping the team meet important deadlines. About the Role

As a Trade Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting Tradespeople with day-to-day workshop activities. From assisting with spray painting and packaging to maintaining a clean and well-organised workspace, your contribution will directly support their ability to deliver quality products on time.

You'll help ensure the right materials are ready when needed, support smooth workflow throughout the workshop, and prepare finished products for dispatch.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop, ensuring all tools and equipment are cleaned and correctly stored.
  • Package and label finished products securely, ensuring they meet quality standards and dispatch requirements.
  • Assist with spray painting by preparing materials, masking components, and maintaining a tidy spray booth.
  • Safely handle and move materials to support Tradespeople and maintain workflow.
  • Conduct cycle counts and stock checks to ensure packaging materials and supplies are always at required levels.
  • Operate basic hand and power tools under supervision to assist with workshop tasks.
  • Work positively and collaboratively as part of their team, modelling company values.
  • Take reasonable care for your own safety and the safety of others at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support workshop operations.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in packaging, stock management, and workshop organisation.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team.
  • Good time management skills to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and confidence using hand and power tools.
  • A proactive approach to safety and compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Adaptability to manage changing priorities in a dynamic workshop environment.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Forklift licence (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Experience in a workshop, manufacturing, or Trade environment (highly regarded).
  • Physically fit for manual handling duties.
  • Experience with spray painting assistance, packaging, or general labouring (beneficial).
  • Understanding of safe manual handling and workplace safety procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tool operation.
  • Awareness of stock management and packaging processes.
