About Us
Canteen is all about supporting young people and their families affected by cancer. Founded by young cancer patients, we offer programs and resources that truly make a difference for 12-25 year-olds facing their own diagnosis, supporting a loved one, or grieving. The Education and Career Service (ECS) team supports young people with their career development from the time of a cancer diagnosis (whether their own, or that of a parent or sibling) until their needs have been met. Working with a high degree of autonomy, the Career Consultant delivers career counselling, education programs, and events that build skills, confidence, and employability. They work directly with young people aged 12–25, providing an individualised, strengths-based service that draws on expertise in career development learning. This includes supporting young people to address barriers, explore interests, and engage meaningfully in education and career opportunities. The Career Consultant responds to referrals from both internal Canteen teams and external partners, ensuring young people receive timely, tailored support.

- Base Salary + Superannuation + Not-For-Profit Salary Packaging (up to $18,550 of your salary tax-free).

About Our Role
- Deliver individual and group-based career counselling to young people through face-to-face, online, and workshop formats.
- Provide tailored career development services that enable young people to explore interests, prepare for employment, and engage in education pathways.
- Carry a caseload of young people and support them to achieve positive outcomes through strengths-based, evidence-informed practice.
- Contribute to the design, evaluation, and continual improvement of ECS programs and resources in line with organisational objectives.
- Identify opportunities for new interventions and group programs, working in consultation with the Team Leader and broader ECS team.
About You
- Relevant degree qualification and eligibility for registration as a Career Practitioner with the Career Development Association of Australia (CDAA), or equivalent body that meets Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA) professional standards.
- Demonstrated experience in career development and/or career development learning, including the delivery of individual and group interventions.
- Experience supporting young people to set, plan, and achieve education and career-related goals, particularly those experiencing barriers linked to chronic illness or disadvantage.
- Proven experience in career counselling, including the use of vocational assessment tools, interpretation and reporting, and the application of appropriate interventions with culturally diverse client groups.
- Experience providing career and employment-related services in education, health, disability, or related sectors; or transferable experience from careers services, human resources, or recruitment.
- Experience in designing, facilitating, and evaluating career education programs across face-to-face and online platforms, with an emphasis on scalable and digitally enabled delivery.
- Strong organisational, case management, and digital literacy skills, including accurate record keeping and program evaluation.
- A collaborative team player who contributes to organisational goals.
- A proactive and positive attitude with a willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
- Warm, compassionate, and friendly approach to supporting our young people

Employment Expectations
To ensure an ongoing commitment to the success of Canteen, all applications must be able to:
- Successfully complete and maintain a current National Police Check and Working with Child Check relevant to the individual's state jurisdiction.
- Undergo an extensive screening process prior to appointment to guarantee the safety of all Canteen's stakeholders.
- Provide at least two direct referees to ensure a successful reference check is completed.
