The Opportunity – Senior Manager, Government Relations

As a Senior Manager, Government Relations within Medibank's Policy, Advocacy and Reputation Group, you will be responsible for leading the organisation's engagement with government stakeholders, across state and territory levels, as well as occasional engagement with federal stakeholders.

This role will ensure strategic alignment of public policy developments and organisational objectives, particularly advocating for policies which support the organisation's priorities.

How you will create value

You will utilise your experience in policy advocacy and government relations to add value to Medibank by:

  • Preparing submissions, briefing papers, and advocacy materials, as well as providing timely analysis and advice on policy impacts.

  • Monitoring legislative and regulatory developments relevant to the organisation.

  • Representing the organisation in government forums, consultations, and policy discussions.

  • Build and maintaining strong relationships with key government officials, advisors, and departments.

  • Identifying emerging political and regulatory risks and opportunities.

  • Providing regular updates to senior leadership on government relations activities.

  • Maintain accurate records of engagements and outcomes, as well as supporting executive participation in government-related events and meetings.

  • Developing long-term plans which support organisational goals.

About you

You are experienced in providing policy advice and have demonstrated the ability to prepare and execute government relations activities, including meetings briefs and feedback from engagement with ministerial offices. You have demonstrated strong stakeholder collaboration experience and show a willingness to learn and grow in your role.

Other key experience includes:

  • Deep understanding of government processes, public policy, and legislative frameworks.

  • Strong analytical skills to interpret complex policy and regulatory issues.

  • Proven ability to influence decision-makers and negotiate outcomes in complex environments.

  • Demonstrated success in engaging with senior government officials and influencing policy outcomes.

  • Punctuality in both written communications and meeting attendance, particularly when accompanying senior members at external events/meetings.
