About the Role:

As Principal Data Architect, you will architect, build, and maintain a fully functional data analytics platform on Azure, supporting the regulatory and intelligence functions of the commission. You will design and oversee multiple robust data pipelines, ensuring data integrity and reliability across diverse systems including GLS, AMANDA, ASIC, ABR, ePlanning, and HBCF. Your expertise will enable advanced analytics and regulatory intelligence, directly influencing how the commission regulates the building and construction industry.

About the team – Advanced Analytics

Data, Intelligence & Analytics team manages some of Australia's largest data assets, providing valuable insights and support to our highly skilled intelligence analysts. Our team is at the forefront of data analytics-led risk-based regulation, using cutting-edge techniques and technologies to extract meaningful information from vast amounts of data.

Key Responsibilities:

  •  Architect, build, and maintain a scalable Azure-based data analytics platform, ensuring high availability, security, and performance.
  • Design, implement, and optimise multiple data pipelines to guarantee data integrity and seamless integration across GLS, AMANDA, ASIC, ABR, ePlanning, and HBCF.
  • Provide expert leadership in enterprise-level Qlik setup, administration, and optimisation, enabling advanced analytics and reporting capabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with the Data Governance and Regulatory Intelligence teams to ensure alignment with compliance, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and enforce data architecture standards, policies, and best practices for the commission's analytics ecosystem.
  • Lead the integration of regulatory and operational data, enabling actionable insights for risk-based regulation and decision-making.
  • Mentor and guide multidisciplinary teams in advanced data engineering, modelling, and analytics practices.

Key Challenges:

  •  Delivering a resilient and future-proof data platform in a complex regulatory environment.
  • Integrating and maintaining data from multiple critical systems (GLS, AMANDA, ASIC, ABR, ePlanning, HBCF) with high accuracy and reliability.
  • Balancing evolving regulatory requirements with technical innovation and operational efficiency.
  • Driving collaboration between data governance, regulatory intelligence, and analytics teams to maximise data value and regulatory impact.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  •  Demonstrated experience designing and building enterprise data analytics platforms on Azure.
  • Proven ability to architect and maintain complex data pipelines, ensuring data integrity across multiple regulatory systems.
  • Intimate knowledge of GLS, AMANDA, ASIC, ABR, ePlanning, and HBCF data structures and integration requirements.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Qlik enterprise setup, administration, and optimisation.
  • Deep understanding of how data analytics informs regulatory practices in the building and construction industry.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with experience working alongside data governance and regulatory intelligence teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
