Role Overview
As a Senior IT Field Technician at The IT Whizz, you'll combine hands-on IT support with business development management to support our clients and drive company growth. This role involves on-site technical support across Melbourne, administrative tasks, and proactive efforts to expand our client base. It's an excellent opportunity for IT students or those studying related fields like information technology or computer science to build on your experience in a casual, flexible position.
This would be a perfect role for someone who is studying IT or similar and is looking for a casual role, allowing you to apply your studies in a professional environment while developing business skills. Familiarity with tools like HubSpot or Canva is a bonus, but training will be provided. You'll need your own insured vehicle for client visits (fuel costs reimbursed).
Key Responsibilities
- On-Site IT Support: Visit client sites to troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and networking issues, including setup and maintenance of mobile phones, laptops, PCs, Wi-Fi routers, and smart devices.
- Business Development: Identify new business opportunities, generate leads, prepare quotes, and follow up with prospective clients to grow The IT Whizz's customer base.
- Client Relationship Management: Build trust with clients by providing clear, patient guidance on technology use, leveraging your IT knowledge.
- Sales Support: Assist in creating marketing materials or proposals using tools like Canva and HubSpot (training provided).
- Administrative Tasks: Maintain accurate client records, update documentation, and manage schedules to ensure seamless service delivery.
- System Maintenance: Perform system checks to ensure reliable, user-friendly solutions.
About You
- Technical Skills: Basic to intermediate knowledge of device installations, software, and networking troubleshooting, ideally gained through IT studies or related fields. Experience with network setups and smart device installations is a plus.
- Business Interest: Enthusiasm for learning sales and client relationship management, ideal for students looking to broaden their professional skills. Some sales experience preferred but not required.
- Customer Service: Strong communication skills with a professional, friendly, and most importantly patient approach, perfect for translating technical concepts to clients who may not be as tech savvy
- Problem-Solving: Proactive and eager to tackle technical and business challenges, applying skills learned in your studies.
- Organization: Self-motivated with strong time management to balance studies and work.
- Experience: Some experience with IT Support or similar roles required—ideal for IT students or those in similar fields looking to gain hands-on experience in a casual role.
- Requirements: Valid Victorian driver's license, insured vehicle. Must obtain a Police Check and provide proof of right to work in Australia (e.g., passport or birth certificate).
Working Hours
- On-Site: 1–2 days per week (Monday–Friday) visiting clients across Melbourne, with flexibility to suit your study schedule. Optional weekend work available for the right candidate.
- Office/Remote: Up to 1 day per week (or equivalent hours) for administrative and business development tasks, with remote work options.
- Flexibility: Approximately 10–20 hours per week, tailored to accommodate your academic commitments as an IT student or similar.
