About St Vincent De Paul Society
For more than 170 years we have been providing practical and compassionate support to people across Victoria whose daily struggles can include putting food on the table, paying essential utilities and ensuring their children remain at school to obtain an education.

Our organisation provides many services and programs, including soup vans, education programs, home visitation programs and VincentCare Victoria (VCV), which assist some of Victoria's most vulnerable communities, such as people experiencing homelessness, the housing crisis and family violence, and the elderly.

A Little Bit About The Role
We're seeking a Work Health & Safety Advisor to provide operational support and advice in developing, implementing and managing our work health and safety (WHS) system and promoting a safe workplace culture. This role also focuses on preventing workplace accidents and injuries through timely guidance to employees, volunteers and management. Working collaboratively with staff, HR, WorkSafe and the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority, you'll coordinate and support the management of work and non-work-related injuries to ensure regulatory compliance and timely outcomes.

A key focus is achieving safe and sustainable return-to-work outcomes, minimising the impact on insurance premiums and driving continuous improvement in WHS performance while supporting the implementation of the Society's WHS Management System and initiatives.

Your responsibilities:

  • Support the development and implementation of WHS and workers compensation management systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory and organisational requirements and contribute to the creation of WHS resources and education materials for leaders and managers.
  • Manage and maintain the incident and hazard reporting system, including conducting WHS site audits and inspections, providing user support and training and ensuring hazards and incidents are effectively reviewed, investigated, escalated and closed out.
  • Promote and coordinate effective injury management and return to work processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and supporting managers, supervisors and workers through training and advice.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to develop, monitor and manage safe and compliant return to work plans and continuously improve related policies, procedures and systems.
  • Coordinate and manage workers compensation and volunteer injury claims, ensuring timely submission, regulatory compliance and effective liaison with insurers and the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority.
  • Support continuous improvement of the workers compensation claims management system by maintaining accurate records, reporting on cases and developing education and information packages for managers and staff.
  • Contribute to and support programs, policies and training initiatives that promote the physical and psychosocial health, safety and wellbeing of employees, volunteers and members.

About You
You're a motivated and solutions-focused Work Health & Safety professional with a passion for creating safe, supportive and compliant workplaces. You bring strong communication skills, sound technical knowledge and the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organisation.

More specifically you will have:

  • A minimum Certificate IV in OHS and Return to Work Coordinator certification (required); with a Diploma in OHS, psychosocial safety qualifications, or Cert IV in Training and Assessment highly regarded.
  • Proven experience in operational Work Health & Safety, including safety hazard and risk management.
  • Demonstrated expertise in claims, injury and Return to Work management within the Victorian workers compensation scheme.
  • Experience with Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (desirable)
  • Exposure to, or experience in the development of initiatives and or programs promoting organisational psychosocial safety
  • Exposure to ISO 45001 and ISO 45003 occupational health and safety management systems
  • Ability to interpret and apply Workers Compensation legislative standards and guidelines as they apply to organisational claims management and rehabilitation initiatives.
  • Demonstrated involvement in issues management and investigations, including the implementation of solutions to resolve conflict
  • Evidence of contribution to the development and implementation of best practice WHS management systems
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build rapport, influence and collaborate effectively.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
