Family Day Care Educator
Become a Family Day Care Educator
Are you passionate about early childhood education and care?
Are you looking for a rewarding career that offers flexibility and the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of children, whilst building your own business?
Have you considered becoming a family day care educator but lacked the funding to get started?
Look no further
Start-up funding Available
Approved educators in targeted SA2 areas could gain access to start-up funding.
Family Day Care Australia (FDCA) is currently running a trial program and looking for new educators who want to establish their own family day care business. Approved educators will receive start-up funding and support following validation and assessment.
Why Choose Family Day Care?
Family day care is a unique, approved form of early childhood education and care where educators work from their own home or approved residence, providing quality care in small groups.
As a family day care educator, you run your own small business while being supported by an approved family day care service provider in your local area. This means that while you're building your own business, you have the support of a family day care service who will help guide you on your journey in providing quality childcare to children in your home or approved residence.
Who are we?
We are Family Day Care Australia (FDCA), the national peak body for family day care. For over 30 years, we have supported, represented, and promoted family day care services and educators across the country.
We are seeking educators from early childhood education and care (ECEC) settings, as well as individuals who may be new to the sector but are working towards a minimum Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.
Benefits of Becoming a Family Day Care Educator
Some of the reasons why people become a family day care educator are:
- Great Income: Family day care provides a rewarding income.
- Flexible working hours and leave: Educators set their own days, hours and annual leave.
- Access to funding: Through our trial program, approved educators will gain access to start-up funding and additional support.
- Quality Care: The focus is on providing quality care to small groups of children.
- Be Your Own Boss: Opportunity to build your own business doing what you love.
- Work from Home: Educators enjoy the flexibility and convenience of working from the comfort of their own home, eliminating the need for daily travel.
- Community Impact: Provide valuable care for families in your local community.
- Approved and Regulated: Family day care is an approved and regulated form of childcare.
- Support and Training: FDCA and your approved local service will provide you with the training, tools, resources, and ongoing support needed to set up, plan and open your doors for childcare.
What is the children's feedback? Children who attend family day care services say they feel welcome, safe and enjoy the personalised attention and non-stop activities provided by educators.
The Recruitment and Approval Process
The recruitment and approval process to become a family day care educator involves the following steps:
- Initial Process: Meet with FDCA for an initial consultation to review requirements, what you need to work towards and if you qualify for start-up funding. During this process you will have the opportunity to ask questions, gain valuable insights into the family day care sector, and learn about the unique benefits for you, the children and the families you will support.
- Local Service Introduction: Once your application is complete, FDCA will introduce you to a local family day care service of your choice. Your approved service will engage in regular visits to ensure you have what you need and are supported in the education and care you are providing.
- Home/Dwelling Inspection: Your home/dwelling will be inspected and assessed to ensure it meets all the required safety and quality standards., (FDCA can provide a self-assessment tool to assist you when considering a setting/dwelling).
Qualifications and Requirements
You will need to obtain (or be actively working towards) the following:
- An approved Certificate III or higher in Early Childhood Education and Care.
- First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Training in asthma and anaphylaxis management.
- Appropriate clearance for working with children (for yourself and anyone 18+ residing in the residence).
- A Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check completed within the last 6 months (FDCA can provide this)
- Public liability insurance (FDCA can provide this).
- Be an Australian Citizen or hold a permanent resident visa.
