As an R&D tax professional, you typically have two choices: join a large accounting firm or a boutique. Both are great options, but outside of setting up on your own, what else is there? Would you have ever guessed a law firm that specifically focuses on intellectual property? Probably not, but then again, it makes perfect sense why IP and R&D tax align so well.

This is a firm with over 200 staff, recognised across Australia for its innovative client base. The R&D tax team is a small part of the firm but holds the strongest potential for growth. With a Partner and several junior team members already in place, now is the time to strengthen the practice with an experienced, commercially minded R&D tax practitioner.

This newly created R&D Tax Director position has geographical expansion in mind. It can be based in Brisbane or Sydney, with offices in both CBDs. You'll be responsible for driving growth across one of these jurisdictions by building new client relationships and leveraging internal referrals. Given the firm's IP focus, the existing client base offers an excellent foundation to build upon.

This role has clear progression in mind. If you achieve the right goals, there is nothing to stop you becoming a Salaried Partner within the first year. That progression will come as a direct result of your commercial activity and leadership. Ultimately, we are looking for someone who wants to be a business owner but also values the resources and backing of an established firm. Your core responsibilities include:

  • Driving business development initiatives to support the growth of the R&D tax team
  • Delivering high-quality service to a portfolio of clients under the R&D Tax Incentive programme, overseeing end-to-end delivery
  • Collaborating with technical and financial specialists across a variety of industries
  • Supporting the development and mentoring of junior team members within the R&D tax group
