Responsibilities
- Preparation and cooking of food in accordance with our menu, ensuring consistency and high standards are maintained.
- Ensuring food handling and storage is in accordance with food handling regulations and is of the highest standard.
- Oversee food plating and garnishing, maintaining consistency and artistic presentation.
- Create and test new recipes, experimenting with flavours and techniques to innovate the menu.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen.
- Prepare food to meet special dietary requirements.
- Regulate the temperature of temperature-controlled units to ensure dishes are stored and cooked at appropriate levels.
- Check food is stored and handled as per food health and hygiene regulations.
- Help with planning of menu items and estimation of food requirements.
- Order food supplies and monitor inventory to ensure adequate stock levels and cost control.
- Examine foodstuff to ensure quality and freshness of ingredients.
- Demonstrate cooking techniques and assist with training or mentoring junior kitchen staff when required.
- Liaise with front and back of house staff and managers to ensure smooth kitchen operation and service delivery.
- An enthusiastic and energetic approach, with the ability to remain composed in a fast-paced environment.
- Be an effective communicator and work well with all team members.
Requirements
- AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma, Diploma, Certificate III or Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or a relevant Hospitality qualification.
- Prior experience working as a Chef in a fast-paced commercial kitchen environment.
- Strong knowledge of cooking methods, kitchen operations, and safe use of commercial kitchen equipment.
- Ability to manage time effectively and maintain high attention to detail under pressure.
- Sound understanding of food hygiene, food handling, and occupational health and safety standards.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with both kitchen and front-of-house staff.
- Flexibility to work full-time on a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays.
- A proactive, enthusiastic, and energetic approach to all tasks in the kitchen.
