About the Position

Reporting to the Head of Safety and Quality (HSQ), the Safety Systems Officer plays a key role in enhancing, managing, and overseeing the Safety Management System and Quality Assurance framework. This position ensures that policies and procedures comply with relevant business, legislative, and regulatory requirements while aligning with current industry best practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide subject matter support for the following programs under the direction of the HSQ (or delegate):
  • Fatigue Management
  • HFNTS (Human Factors and Non-Technical Skills)
  • Drug and Alcohol Plan Management
  • Dangerous Goods
  • Transport Security
  • Workplace Health and Safety (WHS)
  • Environmental Management
  • Safety Assurance
  • Safety Promotion
  • Quality Assurance
  • Regulatory compliance services
  • Other Safety & Quality continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with SMS processes and procedures, providing appropriate direction and resources by monitoring safety activities and performance.
  • Provide WHS&E advice, direction and consultation to the business
  • Document WHS&E obligations across the different states
  • Conduct audits and investigations to determine causal and contributory factors, identify safety deficiencies, and assess corrective actions.
  • Assist in developing and implementing safety campaigns and publications.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in safety action development to address investigation findings.
  • Support proactive risk and change management initiatives across the business.
  • Collect and analyse key performance indicator data related to safety and quality.
  • Assist in delivering safety training and meeting regulatory requirements.
  • Complete necessary training and education as directed by the HSQ (or delegate).
  • Perform other reasonable duties and travel as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Strong understanding of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and the CASA SMS Framework
  • Lead Investigator qualification in Safety Investigation (desirable)
  • Auditor qualification in Quality Assurance or Safety Auditing (desirable)
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment (desirable)
  • Experience using SMS software such as AirMaestro or similar
  • Experience in developing and facilitating training programs
  • Experience in WHS&E (desirable)
  • Advanced IT skills using Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Proactive and demonstrate initiative, with strong communication skills.
  • High level of personal and professional integrity and confidentiality
  • Ability to operate autonomously within a team environment.
