About the Role

As part of our Urban Forest Team, you'll lead the Arboriculture crew, to help maintain and enhance the City's Urban Forest. Your work will directly contribute to the health and beauty of our streetscapes and public spaces. The core duties of this position include are Tree pruning, removal, and planting, examples of this:

• Crown lift pruning for pedestrians and vehicle clearance.
• Rapid response to reactive tree management tasks, such as storm damaged trees or failed tree branches blocking footpaths or roads.
• Providing mentoring and a level of guidance to the General Hand – Arboriculture position.
• Occasional stump herbicide spraying.
• Operating modern equipment with a strong focus on safety.

Team Leader – Arboriculture

As part of our Urban Forest Team, you'll lead the Arboriculture Crew in maintaining and enhancing the City's diverse urban forest. Your work will directly support the health, safety, and beauty of our streetscapes, parks, and public spaces.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform tree pruning, removals, and planting across the City's streetscapes.
• Undertake crown lifting to maintain safe pedestrian and vehicle clearances.
• Respond rapidly to reactive tree management tasks, including storm damage and emergency works.
• Provide mentoring and guidance to the General Hand – Arboriculture position.
• Conduct occasional stump herbicide applications as required.
• Operate and maintain modern arboricultural equipment with a strong focus on safety and efficiency.

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

• Self-motivated, with a strong work ethic and a proactive approach to safety.
• A team player who values collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Experienced in arboriculture operations and a passion for managing trees.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful, you'll need:

• Certificate III in Arboriculture.
• MR Driver's Licence is required
• Current Basic Worksite Traffic Management (BWTM) accreditation.
• White Card.
• Experience in operating a Truck mounted "HIAB" crane RIIHAN307E Unit desirable.
• Chainsaw operation ticket.
• Familiarity with AS4373 – Pruning of Amenity Trees.
• Basic knowledge of common tree species in Western Australia.
• Ability to safely operate and maintain mechanical plant and hand tools.

Salary: Starting from Level 6 Step 1 – Step 4 ($80, $85, City of Cockburn Industrial Agreement 2025 based on qualification and experience.
