The Role:
We
are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Manager to lead the
delivery of civil and bulk earthworks
projects throughout Western Australia.
With varying project locations and roster arrangements, this role is ideal for a dynamic, adaptable professional looking to grow their career in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
Key Responsibilities
As a Project
Manager, you will play a pivotal role in managing and delivering civil and bulk
earthworks projects from concept to completion.
Your responsibilities will
include:
Team Leadership & Resource Management
- Select, lead, and develop project teams including engineers, supervisors, operators, and subcontractors.
- Forecast labour and plant requirements to align with program milestones to optimise productivity.
- Allocate resources effectively, ensuring task delegation supports critical path activities.
- Promote a high-performance culture with a focus on safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Project Execution & Delivery
- Manage end-to-end project delivery, including mobilisation, bulk excavation, drainage, roadworks, and final trim.
- Ensure compliance with design specs, ITPs, and contractual obligations.
- Coordinate sequencing of key activities such as benching, backfill, culverts, pavement prep, and service installations.
- Leverage GPS machine control and survey tools to achieve design accuracy and tolerances.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Maintain strong client relationships through regular updates, progress meetings, and transparent communication.
- Liaise with consultants and subcontractors to resolve RFIs, NCRs, and design queries.
- Represent Multiplant in audits, inspections, and handovers, ensuring client satisfaction and project continuity.
- Identify repeat business and growth opportunities through strong delivery performance.
Cost & Commercial Management
- Oversee tender submissions, cost estimates, methodologies, and staging plans.
- Manage procurement, subcontractor engagement, and cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor project budgets, cash flow, and performance against KPIs and margins.
- Identify and implement construction efficiencies to improve commercial outcomes.
Communication & Reporting
- Deliver clear, consistent updates to clients, teams, planners, and management.
- Prepare technical reports, look-ahead programs, delay justifications, and EOT claims.
- Use platforms like Procore or Aconex to manage documentation, approvals, and workflows.
- Foster effective internal communication across safety, engineering, and quality teams.
Quality & Safety Oversight
- Enforce QA/QC procedures aligned with ISO standards and project specs.
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and quality checks on civil and earthworks activities.
- Monitor environmental controls and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
- Drive a strong safety culture and ensure full compliance with HSEQ policies and procedures.
Problem Solving & Risk Management
- Resolve technical challenges related to ground conditions, material quality, and sequencing.
- Maintain a live risk register and proactively manage high-risk activities (e.g. deep excavation, service clashes).
- Respond promptly to issues and variations, applying sound engineering and commercial judgement.
- Capture lessons learned to enhance future project delivery.
Key Requirements
To be successful in
this role, you will possess:
- 5+ years' experience managing
civil construction or bulk earthworks projects. - Demonstrated ability to lead
site teams and coordinate all aspects of project delivery. - Strong technical knowledge of
civil construction processes, bulk earthworks methodologies, and
environmental management. - A Diploma or higher in
Project Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline – or
equivalent practical experience. - High-level written and verbal
communication skills, with the ability to produce professional
correspondence, instructions, and reports. - Proficiency in Microsoft
Office Suite and MS Project (or similar project scheduling tools). - A strategic mindset with
proven experience in building client relationships and identifying new
business opportunities. - A proactive, safety-first
approach to leadership and decision-making. - Innovative thinking and a
commitment to continuous improvement in project delivery. - Rio Tinto site experience essential.
