The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Industry Supervisor to provide a critical role at Loddon and Middleton prisons.

About the Business Unit

Located at Castlemaine, Loddon Prison is a 477 bed Medium Security Prison for sentenced male prisoners. Adjacent to Loddon Prison is Middleton, a 236 bed Restricted Minimum Security Prison for sentenced male prisoners. The focus of both prisons is rehabilitation via individual case management, employment, education, training and also the provision of programs and targeted interventions to address offending behaviour and promote the development of prosocial behaviour. Both prisons provide contemporary and quality correctional services that prepare prisoners for transition and reintegration.

About the Role

Prison Industry Supervisors are team leaders in the prison environment.  The roles require leadership, maturity, sound judgement and confidence in decision making, with developed capabilities to coach, mentor, motivate or council staff and prisoners when required.  With highly developed communication and negotiation skills, the prison industry supervisor leads and manages industry staff to achieve program and service outcomes in a multidisciplinary team and rehabilitative environment.

This multifaceted role encompasses human resource management, coaching and developing staff and prisoners, OH&S requirements, E.E.O. legislation responsibilities, training requirements and budget & procurement monitoring.

An important facet of their role involves liaison with internal staff and external stakeholders and preparation of analytical and informed contributions to develop and deliver programs and processes.

Some of your duties will include:

• Supervise achievement of commercial production targets and customer expectations, develop and monitor the budget, procure goods and services; ensure security, Occupational Health and Safety and food safety compliance is adhered to.
• Leading and managing staff in the Loddon Industries to ensure the safety and security of prisoners, staff and any visitors. This includes appropriate levels of surveillance and interaction within the facility, and monitoring staff and prisoners for compliance with security and occupational health and safety procedures (OH&S) & Procurement.
• Train, supervise and support staff in all aspects of prison industry operations including prisoner training and assessment, case management, program and service knowledge and involvement, maintenance of professional boundaries and contribution to prison and prison industry security management procedures.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Computer Skills (Familiar with Department suite of software, Oracle, PIMS, JETS, Centurion Microsoft Office Suite).
• Relevant industry experience, ideally kitchen or a catering background, together with appropriate qualifications or trade experience would be desirable, but not essential.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification and/or experience relevant to Loddon Prison and Middleton industries and services areas (preferred but not essential)
• Qualification or experience relevant to the food service industry would be desirable.
• Successful completion of Prison Officer Pre-Service Training.
• Current High-Risk License (Forklift) (preferred but not essential).
