  • Starting Salary: $75,496 per annum (plus 17% superannuation)

About you

You are a passionate animal technician with a strong understanding of animal welfare, care, and ethics in a research environment. You demonstrate a strong work ethic and are comfortable utilising your strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills to work with diverse stakeholders and supervise junior staff. 

About the role

Under general supervision, you will be pivotal in ensuring that all animals used in research at the University are housed and cared for in accordance with best practice and legislative requirements. The position is also responsible for providing research animal care, supporting the day-to-day operations of the Core Animal Facility, and ensuring users/visitors comply with Facility policies and procedures and legislative requirements.

To be successful you will need

  • A qualification relevant to laboratory animal care (e.g. Diploma in Animal Technology)
  • Demonstrated skills in laboratory animal care, including handling, breeding, technical procedures, welfare and ethics in a research environment
  • Experience in implementing and maintaining quality systems and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Experience in the supervision of facility staff, researchers, students, visitors and contractors
