Fashion Assistant

About Us
Macrae is a small-batch, made-to-order fashion label with a focus on craftsmanship, sustainability, and experimentation. We design and produce garments in-house, from concept through to shipping, in slow and considered releases.
Internship Overview
This internship is designed around your interests. You can focus on one area or explore multiple aspects of running an independent fashion label, including:
- Design
- Pattern making
- Sewing & garment construction
- Styling & content creation
- Studio assistant tasks
- Product development & production
Key Responsibilities
Interns will work closely alongside Rowan. Tasks may include supporting garment production through cutting, sewing, pressing, and quality control; assisting with pattern edits and simple technical packs; capturing and editing social media content for TikTok and Instagram; helping prepare orders for shipping; and contributing to the organisation of the studio through fabric and trim labelling or inventory management.
Requirements
- No prior experience required — full training provided
- Interest in fashion, design, or creative production
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and willing to learn
- Available 3–12 hours per week in Fairfield (some remote tasks possible depending on focus)
What You'll Learn
Over the course of the internship, you will gain insight into the complete lifecycle of a garment, from concept and sampling through to small-batch production and release. You will learn the fundamentals of working with industrial sewing machines, garment construction, and quality control standards, as well as gaining experience in pattern making, content creation, and studio operations. The internship also offers the chance to learn about dye lab processes and sustainable practices in fashion production.
