We aim to recruit, train, assess, and support foster and kinship carers across the South Burnett region, ensuring safe, happy, and stable placements for children in need.

Position Overview

The Cultural Connections Officer will play a vital role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their connections to culture and community. This position involves engaging with foster and kinship carers, providing practical and emotional support, and participating in cultural activities.

Responsibilities include assessing the needs of children and carers, contributing to the development of trauma-informed care strategies, and maintaining up-to-date documentation. The Cultural Connections Officer will also assist in recruitment efforts and work collaboratively with various stakeholders to promote the best interests of the children in care.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of cultural sensitivity and demonstrate a commitment to supporting the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. You should have relevant experience in child protection or human services and be capable of effectively engaging with diverse communities.

  • Cultural competence and strong relationships within the Cherbourg community.
  • Experience in child protection, human services, or related fields.
  • Understanding of child development and trauma-informed care practises.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

As a Cultural Connections Officer, you will be expected to uphold professional standards, maintain confidentiality, and actively participate in the on-call roster to ensure support is available to children and carers at all times.
