The Opportunity
The Community and Engagement Officer plays a critical role in supporting the Community and Cultural Services Coordinator to deliver Council's strategic objectives by developing and implementing inclusive engagement strategies, enhancing recreational and cultural opportunities, and strengthening connections with community members of all ages. This position contributes to a vibrant, connected, and resilient community through effective collaboration with stakeholders and supports Council in building a positive public reputation and delivering meaningful social outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the delivery of the Corporate Plan's community engagement and liveability objectives by assisting in the planning and implementation of inclusive programs, events, and initiatives that reflect the needs and aspirations of the Hinchinbrook community;
  • Assist the Community and Cultural Services Coordinator in the administration of key community-focused programs, including Community Grants, the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), and Council's Health and Wellbeing Program;
  • Assist with the development and coordination of engagement activities, including community consultations, forums, workshops, and events, to build positive relationships and encourage active participation from all age groups;
  • Support the management of projects and budgets, ensuring initiatives are delivered in accordance with established timelines, funding requirements, and Council procedures;
  • Assist in the preparation of community engagement plans and reports, contributing to the design and documentation of strategies that improve transparency, participation, and community satisfaction;
  • Help collect and analyse community feedback to identify local priorities and emerging issues, and provide input into program and service delivery improvements;
  • Foster partnerships by working collaboratively with local organisations, sporting clubs, schools, and community groups to enhance program reach, resource sharing, and community outcomes;
  • Contribute to the promotion of community and recreational initiatives, helping to ensure activities are accessible, inclusive, and well-communicated across diverse demographic groups; and
  • Support grant applications and funding submissions to external agencies by providing research, data, and project assistance as directed by the Coordinator.

  • Demonstrated experience in delivering community development and/or community engagement projects and events;
  • Proven ability to build and maintain partnerships with Government agencies, businesses, and community groups;
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment;
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor communication to suit a variety of audiences;
  • Sound knowledge of project management principles and strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and general computer literacy; and
  • Current Queensland 'C' Class Drivers Licence (minimum P1).
General Salary Information:
Level 3 $74,890 per annum and $39.73 per hour including allowances plus superannuation (Part-time Prorata)
