Perth, Western Australia Department of Treasury and Finance WA Full time $60,000 - $90,000 per year

Are you passionate about making a difference for Western Australia?

We want to hear from you.

About us

The Department of Treasury and Finance is at the centre of Government decision-making. As the principal economic and financial advisor, we provide leadership and strategic advice and influence to support the delivery of services and outcomes for the benefit of Western Australia.

What we do is integral to the Government's decision-making processes about where and how to spend taxpayer's money to ensure Western Australians have access to quality services on a financially sustainable basis.

We lead procurement and leverage our buying power to secure products and services for government, achieving value for money for WA.

We collect revenue to fund government services and administer payment of grants and subsidies to the WA community.

The work area

This role sits within the Performance and Evaluation Group 2 Directorate which is part of the Strategic Policy and Evaluation business unit. The Performance and Evaluation Group 2 Directorate covers the social services (e.g. child protection, family domestic violence) and the housing and works portfolios (social and affordable housing and building maintenance and works). We work closely in our portfolio-aligned teams, and with our partner agencies and central agency counterparts to undertake analysis, identify solutions, provide advice, monitor resource allocation, and improve the outcomes across public services.

The opportunity

Are you passionate about social policy and influencing value-for-money investments to enhance social policy outcomes and improve the well-being of people in need? We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual, who is also curious and solutions-oriented, to join us and make a difference for Western Australia. In this role, you will:

  • Analyse, interpret information and shape advice relating to investment proposals, proposed changes to policy or legislation and service and financial performance, to facilitate informed Government decision-making.
  • Clarify and solve problems through working with colleagues and partner agencies, including identifying and considering alternative and pragmatic options.
  • Work effectively in a team-based environment to meet team deliverables, deliver on whole-of-Government reporting processes such as the State budget, and support Senior Executive to meet Treasury and Finance's goals.
  • Mentor and/or manage junior team members.

This is a fixed-term opportunity for 12 months, with the possibility of extension, however, this process may be used to fill future, similar permanent or fixed-term positions that may arise across Treasury and Finance within the next 12 months.

Due to the department's shutdown over the Christmas/New Year period, this selection process may be finalised in early 2026. The selected candidate will be expected to commence in the role in the new year.
