Who are we looking for?

We're looking for a Senior Design Manager to join our Project Management Group.

Our WA Project Management team is involved in supporting our clients in the planning and delivery of significant facilities and infrastructure projects in Australia. We provide Project Management, Design Management and Contract Administration services on major capital works facilities projects including National Projects for the Department of Defence and infrastructure projects in the Indian Ocean Territories for both Defence and the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts. With the view to continue to diversify this service offering, it is an exciting time to join the team. 

As Senior Design Manager you will manage the design and construction process, leading the design team and other project team members for major capital works and infrastructure projects ($50m+) to achieve high-quality, budgetary, and programmatic deliverables. The position will be responsible for managing GHD's technical inputs, evaluating technical performance and troubleshooting issues and fronts both external and internal clients to communicate the design as it evolves.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

• Leading the technical work with the client, ensuring project technical risks are identified and handled
• Positioning as the interface management between technical fields/packages
• Supporting the Project Director and Project Manager in project financial, quality and delivery schedule matters
• Providing input to the budgeting process including forecasting resource requirements
• Providing leadership to the design team, in line with GHD's values
• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring stakeholder collaboration with third parties such as contractors, authorities etc, ensuring an understanding of their needs resulting in satisfactory deliverables

What will you bring to the team:

• Relevant Engineering tertiary qualifications
• Interstate and/or international experience on major capital works infrastructure projects
• At least 15 years experience in the design and delivery of major projects with experience in leading multidisciplinary design teams and the delivery of major infrastructure projects 
• A broad range of experience, including exposure to both consulting and contracting would be highly regarded. Experience in managing subconsultants and secondary consultants ideal
• Strong commercial skill, with an ability to identify and decisively handle project risks and opportunities as they arise
• Strong, clear and effective communication skills (written and verbal) 
• Experience in the delivery of projects using 3D design tools and a detailed understanding of BIM processes and workflows is essential
• Leads and encourages others, able to make decisions and takes ownership; advises and holds others to account; provides support and inspiration to help others succeed
• AU Citizenship to ensure appropriate security clearances for Defence projects
