Are you a clinically skilled and educationally informed Speech Pathologist who is passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people through communication support? Do you thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and bring both leadership and a coaching mindset to your work with schools and colleagues?
Working as a key member of a multidisciplinary team within the Student, Support and Engagement Team, the Senior Speech Pathologist supports the learning and engagement of children and young people by enhancing their communication, language, and literacy development to ensure they reach their full potential and maximise their learning in alignment with the Equity and Excellence strategy.
This position is being offered in a Temporary Part-Time capacity (0.6FTE), 45.6 hours per fortnight.
Why this Role?
Your role is to support the learning and engagement of children and young people by promoting effective communication, language, and literacy development to ensure every student reaches their full potential — aligning with the Equity and Excellence strategy.
As a key member of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide expert leadership in speech pathology and case management processes, working collaboratively with school leadership, support teams, and families. A central focus of this role is building the capacity of school teams to implement evidence-based, inclusive communication supports.
Building partnerships with external agencies and allied health providers to strengthen wraparound support for students, families, and school communities will be integral to this position.
These roles will be targeted to P-9 Primary and High School contexts.
As a Senior Speech Pathologist, you will:
- Provide specialist assessment, intervention, and consultation to support students with speech, language, and communication needs to engage successfully in their learning.
- Lead the development of personalised learning and communication plans in partnership with schools, families, and multidisciplinary teams, ensuring reasonable adjustments and inclusive classroom practices.
- Support student wellbeing and engagement by addressing communication barriers that impact learning, social interaction, and behaviour, in collaboration with social workers, psychologists, and other allied health professionals.
- Provide professional leadership and guidance within the multidisciplinary regional team, contributing to regional priorities, coaching school-based teams, and facilitating professional learning for teachers and support staff.
- Build and sustain partnerships with community organisations and external health and education providers to enable coordinated and holistic supports for students and families.
- Contribute to regional service planning and case management processes, analysing trends, monitoring outcomes, and ensuring services are evidence-based and responsive to school needs.
- Engage in administrative and reporting tasks, including the preparation of professional reports, presentations, and documentation to inform regional leadership of progress and outcomes relating to student communication and engagement.
You will demonstrate:
- High-level expertise in speech pathology assessment, intervention, and service delivery within an educational or child development context.
- Strong understanding of inclusive education, student engagement, and trauma-informed practice, with the ability to adapt communication supports to diverse learners.
- The capacity to build and maintain effective relationships with school leaders, teachers, families, and external agencies to achieve shared outcomes for students.
- Proven experience in mentoring and supporting other professionals, including facilitating professional learning and contributing to evidence-based practice development.
- Well-developed analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare professional reports and presentations.
- A commitment to continuous professional growth, reflective practice, and contribution to team learning.
Mandatory Requirement of this role
- Tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology from a recognised tertiary institution, and eligibility for Certified Practising Membership with Speech Pathology Australia (SPA).
- Current Working with Children Check (Blue Card) issued by Blue Card Services (Queensland).
- Current C class driver's licence to enable travel between school sites within the region.
- Ongoing participation in professional supervision and continuing professional development as required by Speech Pathology Australia.
