The office of Julie Collins MP is seeking applications for full-time or part-time ongoing Electorate Officer A and Electorate Officer B roles, based in the office of Minister Julie Collins, Federal Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, in Hobart, Tasmania.

We are looking for highly motivated people able to work in a close-knit team to support the Minister's engagement with constituents and stakeholders across the Franklin electorate.

The people in these roles need to have excellent verbal and written communication skills, be good with people and be highly organised. Candidates must hold a current, unrestricted driver's licence as the roles require regular travel across the electorate.

The key duties of the Electorate Officer A position are, but are not limited to:

· Management of all incoming enquiries from members of the public including in-person, phone calls, emails, paper correspondence and social media.

· Liaison with government departments on behalf of members of the public and the Member to resolve issues, particularly those relating to Centrelink, NDIS and Immigration.

· Respond to constituent enquiries and preparation of electorate correspondence and communications.

· Attend meetings and events with the Member of Parliament.

· Management of bulk communications with members of the public for the Member.

The key duties of the Electorate Officer B position are, but are not limited to:

· Monitor local community events;

· Attend meetings and events with the Member of Parliament and follow up any issues;

· Assist constituents that contact the Member of Parliament;

· Support and work with the team on assisting community groups that contact the Member of Parliament;

· Maintain and draft material for the Member of Parliament's website;

· Design and arrange for distribution of various materials for the Member of Parliament;

· Research electorate issues or portfolio related issues as directed by the Member of Parliament or Advisers;

· Initiate community engagement strategies, including on specific issues;

· Support the team in the office to complete tasks, events and visits for the Member of Parliament;

The ideal applicants for both roles should possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience:


• Ability to engage and communicate with a broad range of people


• Ability to work as part of a team


• Excellent oral and written communication skills with attention to detail


• Well-developed IT skills including word processing, spreadsheets and database management


• Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple and competing work tasks in a fast-paced working environment


• An understanding of Government and Parliament would be an advantage but is not essential

Employment conditions:

The positions are offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement which include:


• A commencing salary between $71,808 and $86,506 will be negotiated depending on the role, experience and relevant skills


• An additional optional allowance of between $8,949 and $22,368 (dependent on skills and/or previous experience) may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work


• An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable

An initial probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.

The successful applicants will be required to comply with the Behaviour Code for Staff employed under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984.

The successful applicants may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.

Applicants are required to obtain and maintain security clearance at Negative Vetting Level 2 and comply with the Ministerial Staff Code of Conduct.
