Are you a strategic communicator ready to lead in a dynamic, high-profile environment? The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage are seeking an experienced
Director Corporate Communications
to shape and deliver impactful communication strategies that support the Department's vision and whole-of-government priorities. In this role, you'll thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, balancing multiple competing priorities while maintaining clarity, focus, and strategic direction. Your ability to adapt quickly and make sound decisions under pressure will be key to driving successful outcomes.

This is a fixed term full-time position for 12 months with the possibility of extension and/or permanency. This process may be used to fill future similar permanent or fixed-term positions that may arise within the Department and across the WA public sector in the next 12 months from the initial date of appointment.

Our Perth office is located in prime position within the Perth CBD in a convenient location, above the Perth Underground rail; close to the Wellington Street Bus Station and City CAT services.

To be successful for this position, you need to demonstrate:

  • Substantial experience in leading and implementing communication strategies and managing complex issues within a dynamic, high pressure and politically sensitive environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret strategic direction and seamlessly integrate communications strategies, messaging and actions into departmental or whole of government agenda.
  • Demonstrated empathetic leadership and strategic vision with the ability to develop and champion communication approaches that deliver broad corporate and social value.
  • High-level communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong track record of building and maintaining effective relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders, including Ministerial offices and senior public sector executives, to influence strategic decision making.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and capability across all forms of media and communications with the ability to achieve outcomes.
  • Demonstrate the behaviours within the leadership context as outlined below.

Core leadership behaviours outlined in Leadership Expectations are applicable to this role and should be demonstrated in the context of Multi Area Leader. Multiple Area Leader context is about leading teams to achieve the strategic direction of a number of different business areas and to implement the associated operational strategies. The expected behaviours may be assessed during the recruitment and selection process.
