The Role
As Assistant Manager, you'll work closely with the Location Manager to ensure the smooth daily operation of the GoBoat site. You'll support a small team of Crew Members, help coordinate bookings, lead by example in customer service, and step into the lead role when the Manager is unavailable.
This role combines hands-on outdoor work with leadership and operational coordination. You'll play an important part in maintaining GoBoat's high standards of safety, presentation, and guest experience, while helping the team run efficiently day-to-day.
Key Responsibilities1. Operational Leadership
- Support the Location Manager in daily site operations, including staff coordination, vessel readiness, and guest flow.
- Lead by example in professionalism, customer service, and teamwork.
- Supervise crew members, assisting with training and task allocation.
- Conduct pre-departure checks and safety briefings, ensuring compliance with GoBoat standards.
- Manage vessel rotation, maintenance reporting, and safety documentation.
Step into the Manager role when required, ensuring consistent leadership and communication.
Guest Experience & Service
Deliver friendly, professional, and memorable experiences for all guests.
- Resolve customer enquiries, feedback, and booking issues efficiently.
- Oversee group bookings and special events in coordination with the Manager.
Ensure all staff provide consistent safety briefings and uphold GoBoat's hospitality standards.
Site Presentation & Maintenance
Maintain high presentation standards across boats, docks, and guest areas.
- Support and monitor daily cleaning, detailing, and charging of vessels.
Report and follow up on maintenance, damage, or safety issues promptly.
Team Development
Assist with training and onboarding of new crew members.
- Foster a supportive, positive, and safety-focused workplace culture.
Encourage feedback and collaboration within the team to improve efficiency and morale.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Promote safe work practices and adherence to all WHS procedures.
- Monitor weather and waterway conditions and assist in implementing safety measures.
- Ensure all incidents or near-misses are reported accurately and promptly.
Essential Requirements
- Leadership or supervisory experience in tourism, hospitality, or marine operations.
- Strong communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working outdoors and on the water.
- Physically fit and confident with manual handling tasks.
- Current Boat Licence (RMDL) required.
- First Aid & CPR Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Available weekends, public holidays, and peak trading periods.
Desirable Qualifications
- Coxswain Grade 3 (or willingness to obtain).
- Basic maintenance or mechanical knowledge.
