About Us

Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.

Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the 'Courts Group'.

MCV

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is the first level of the Victorian court system and is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria.  It has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 locations, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.

People Services provide core human resources functions, ensuring Courts Group has productive work systems and modern workplaces. People Services design and implement programs that support work performance and the health, safety, and wellbeing of judicial officers, members and employees.

Key functions include Health, Safety and Wellbeing, Workplace Relations, People Advisory Services, Talent Acquisition, People Partnering, Organisational Development, Judicial, Member and Executive Services, Payroll, Systems & Reporting. The Chief People Officer leads the function and is part of the CSV executive.

About the Role

The Senior People Partner takes a lead role in complex case management across the jurisdiction, proactively managing sensitive and high-risk matters in partnership with people managers. They provide expert guidance and coaching to People Partners, ensuring consistent and effective handling of performance, conduct, and wellbeing cases. By engaging closely with the Strategic People Partner, they identify thematic trends and emerging risks, contributing to strategic workforce insights and preventative approaches. Their leadership in this space ensures a cohesive and responsive case management approach that supports both organisational integrity and employee wellbeing.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Leading case management across the jurisdiction by proactively managing complex and sensitive people matters related to performance, conduct, and wellbeing cases. in partnership with people managers.
  • Working closely with leaders to provide comprehensive support and strategic HR expertise across various people and culture topics including workforce planning, leadership and coaching, team building interventions, change management, organisational development and cultural transformation initiatives.
  • Engaging executives and leaders on consistent solutions for core HR processes and practices, whilst accommodating jurisdiction specific requirements.
  • Providing support, advice and coaching to leaders and teams, on a range of complex employee relations and people and culture matters in accordance with relevant legislation. Interpreting CSV and VPS policies and leveraging specialist expertise from People Services colleagues to ensure local deliverables are met.
  • Developing strong working relationships with key stakeholders across Courts Group to build organisation- specific knowledge and become a trusted advisor, actively influencing at senior levels.
  • Providing authoritative, contemporary HR advice to senior management on workforce strategies using data insights to inform decision making and strategy development.
  • Proactively measuring impacts of HR solutions and monitor and evaluate approaches to provide timely feedback on any identified opportunities, issues, gaps, risks, or business needs.
  • Using data insights to influence strategic workforce planning and build the organisational capability and capacity needed to deliver business outcomes.

This position is located at the Magistrates Court of Victoria - 233 William Street, Melbourne Vic 3000 but may require travel to other Courts Group sites.

About You

  • Substantial experience advising and influencing people leaders and executives on a broad range of HR matters is essential.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, or related discipline (or underway) will be well regarded.
  • Organisational development accreditations such as LSI, GSI, MBTI, SL II are highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical working experience in contemporary HR theory and practice, including strategic workforce planning, talent and succession planning, organisational change, team development, leadership theory including 360-degree feedback.
  • Excellent conceptual and analytical skills, with a sound understanding and appreciation of processes and frameworks that can be used to assist leaders to diagnose problems and develop actions that resolve workforce challenges. Experience in the facilitation of meetings and workshops with executive teams, leading change and transformation, and application of workforce data analytics.
  • High level interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with a capacity to consult, communicate and influence senior and operational leadership teams in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Sound judgement and demonstrated experience in strategic and operational decision making to ensure clear, consistent and fair decisions.
