Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Carpenter to join our construction team. This role involves constructing, erecting, installing, renovating and repairing structures and fixtures made from wood and other materials for our residential building projects. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail while working on high-quality home construction projects.
Essential Requirements
Qualifications:
- Certificate III in Carpentry (CPC30220) or equivalent trade qualification
Experience:
- Minimum 1 years post-apprenticeship experience as a qualified carpenter
- Extensive experience in residential construction and home building
- Proven experience with timber framing, finishing carpentry and cabinetry
- Experience reading and interpreting building plans and specifications
Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and analytical abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project)
- Knowledge of construction law and contractual principles
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Strong organizational and time management skills
Key Responsibilities
- Study plans, specifications and drawings to determine materials required and dimensions of structures and fixtures to be fabricated
- Order and select timbers and materials, and prepare layouts in accordance with building codes and regulations
- Cut materials to size using hand and power tools including saws, chisels, planes, sanders and drilling equipment
- Shape, cut and smooth timber and other materials using hand tools and power tools
- Join materials with nails, screws, adhesives, bolts and other fasteners
- Build timber framework structures for houses including wall frames, roof trusses and floor systems
- Install doors, windows, architraves, skirting boards and other fixtures
- Construct and install kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, built-in wardrobes and storage solutions
- Install timber flooring, decking and external cladding systems
- Erect scaffolding and temporary structures as required for construction activities
- Measure and mark cutting and assembly lines using rulers, pencils, chalk and marking gauges
- Verify trueness of structures using plumb bob, level, straightedge and framing square
- Repair and maintain existing timber structures and fixtures
- Install insulation, vapor barriers and weatherproofing materials
- Collaborate with other trades including plumbers, electricians and painters
- Ensure all work complies with building codes, safety regulations and quality standards
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures at all times
- Mentor and supervise apprentice carpenters and junior staff as required
- Complete work within specified timeframes and to required quality standards
