About The Role
This position is all about building and operating the data platforms that power ABC's digital products. You'll work at the heart of ABC's digital transformation, ensuring our data services are reliable, scalable, and easy for teams to use. The role spans automation, infrastructure, and observability — enabling product, data, and analytics teams to deliver value faster and with confidence.

You'll collaborate closely with engineers and product teams across the ABC to design and maintain modern data pipelines, streaming services, and cloud infrastructure. By embedding best practices in CI/CD, monitoring, and incident response, you'll help shape the foundations that support millions of Australians connecting with ABC's digital content every day.

Key Accountabilities

  • Design and deliver complex CI/CD systems powering ABC's digital products across web, mobile and streaming platforms
  • Lead automation of infrastructure, testing and deployment using advanced DevOps practices
  • Improve reliability and quality by embedding monitoring, reporting and fault handling into platforms
  • Drive efficiency by automating processes and setting best-practice standards
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and guidelines
  • Collaborate with Agile teams, contributing to planning, reviews and successful project delivery
  • Stay at the forefront of digital engineering technology and share knowledge across the team and wider business

About You

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent significant skills, knowledge and experience. Current knowledge of and a keen interest in the Internet and media industries.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) products and automated code integration and deployment systems such as GitLab.
  • Experience with data streaming, warehousing, and analytics platforms, with an understanding of how these systems connect to deliver business value.
  • Experience with Kafka or other event streaming platforms is highly regarded.
  • Familiarity with modern transformation tools such as DBT is a plus, even at a conceptual level.
  • Strong proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools such as AWS CDK, Terraform, or CloudFormation, and a mindset that automation is the default way of working.
  • Experience with observability and reliability practices - monitoring, alerting, and learning from incidents are second nature to you.
  • Excellent proficiency in at least one scripting language, with a focus on clean, maintainable code and strong documentation habits.
  • Demonstrated use of third-party DevOps and collaboration tools such as Datadog, PagerDuty, Splunk, JIRA and Confluence.
  • Highly advanced problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate, analyse and solve very complex technical problems.
  • Highly advanced communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Previous experience working with Agile project management practices is desirable.
  • A growth mindset - motivated to learn quickly, adapt to new challenges, and contribute ideas that continuously improve how we work.
