Position overview: The Performance Monitoring and Reporting Unit (PMR) in the Strategy and Performance Branch, DoE needs a multi-skilled Business Intelligence (BI) Developer with strong, proven experience in BI report development, using Microsoft Power BI and SQL Server Management Studio, to be part of a team responsible for the ongoing development, enhancement and maintenance of the Power BI reporting products to schools and early childhood users. This role will develop fit-for-purpose data models and Power BI visualisations that will deliver essential information directly into the hands of our users. This position will play a key part in the ongoing maintenance and enhancements of existing reporting products such as the School Online Reporting Dashboard (SORD), shaping up and supporting the department's continued expansion of BI and build on the excitement and momentum of recent achievements in this space.

Tasks and activities:

• Undertake tasks associated with the ongoing maintenance, enhancements, and data updates to SORD and any other reporting products.

• Work with the business, other team members, and vendors to understand requirements and design fit-for-purpose data models and user-focused BI visualisations and reports, using range of Microsoft programs and applications such as Power BI, Azure DevOps, and SQL Server Management Studio.

• Develop Power BI data models and interactive reports.

• Work with teams in the Branch to ensure data solutions meet functional requirements.

• Conduct data model design activities and possess extensive knowledge of data warehouse and ETL designs.

• Develop Quality Assurance checks to ensure data quality, integrity, and lineage across the solution.

• Conduct performance analysis and undertake code optimisation where required.

• Undertake unit and system testing of all developments.

• Investigate and rectify bugs and issues found within existing reports and dashboards.

• Prepare, maintain and review technical documentation and maintain the metadata repository.

• Actively participate in team planning sessions and proactively provide updates and communicate risk or inhibitors to progress.

Experience and skills:

• Demonstrated, extensive experience in designing and developing Microsoft Power BI interactive dashboards and reports.

• Demonstrated experience in working with stakeholders, customers, and teams within the branch to translate business needs into functional Power BI reports.

• Demonstrated ability to develop visualisation options for addressing business needs and present to the customer, outlining pros and cons of each option.

• Strong knowledge of Power BI report optimisation concepts for ensuring high performing reports.

• Demonstrated experience working with the Microsoft Azure development stack and SQL Server Management Studio.

• Demonstrated knowledge of data warehouse solutions.

• Demonstrated ability to develop and adhere to a robust data and reporting testing regime.

• Demonstrated knowledge of data warehouse architecture, data modelling, database and ETL design.

• Have good problem solving and critical thinking skills.

• Proactive engagement and communication approach.

• Active contributor to discussion with team members and other stakeholders about task/activity prioritisation.

• Ability to self-manage and work autonomously.

• Have strong oral and written communication skills.
