About the role

We're looking for our first
People & Culture Manager
— and our
only dedicated People & Culture team member
. You'll have full ownership of the employee experience end-to-end: from hiring and onboarding to culture, engagement, and performance.

You'll be both
hands-on and strategic
, ensuring our people operations run smoothly, while shaping the culture that makes Beforepay a great place to work.

Reporting into our CFO, you'll work closely with leadership to connect headcount planning, culture, and compliance to the broader business strategy.

This is a full-time, hybrid role based in Sydney, Australia.

About Beforepay Group

Beforepay Group is an ASX-listed ethical-lending fintech founded in 2019 to create safe and affordable lending products. We operate two business lines: Carrington Labs and Beforepay.

Beforepay is a direct-to-consumer business offering customers access to safe and affordable loans.

Carrington Labs is our B2B offering which builds and deploys explainable AI-powered loan portfolio recommendations and credit risk solutions.

We've won several awards, including Best Startup of the Year and Ethical Lender of the Year.

Key Responsibilities

  • People Operations
    : Manage the end-to-end employee lifecycle — onboarding, engagement, offboarding.
  • Culture & Engagement:
    Lead initiatives to foster a strong, values-driven culture and track employee sentiment.
  • Talent & Recruitment:
    Partner with hiring managers and CFO to attract and retain top fintech talent.
  • Performance & Development:
    Introduce frameworks for performance reviews, feedback, and career progression.
  • Policies & Compliance:
    Maintain compliant HR policies aligned with Australian employment law and company values.
  • Leadership Support:
    Provide insights and reporting to the CFO and leadership team on workforce planning, turnover, and engagement.

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years in HR/People roles, with at least 2 years in a startup/scale-up environment.
  • Solid knowledge of Australian employment law and compliance.
  • Proven ability to set up people frameworks from scratch.
  • Comfortable being both strategic and operational.
  • Collaborative, empathetic, and passionate about people and culture

Candidates must be available full-time with Australian working rights. Our office is near Pitt Street Mall, Sydney.
