Tobacco Regulatory Control Officer

Join a small, high-impact licensing team that keeps tobacco and vaping retailing lawful and safe. This is practical regulatory work with clear outcomes. The role sits in a fast-paced environment where strong admin decision-making, sharp writing and a steady head under pressure are valued.

Location: St Leonards, NSW

Contract: 6 month fixed term

Rate: $48.00 per hour

Work pattern: 3 days in office, 2 days WFH per week

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and determine licence applications, renewals and variations in line with legislation, policy and delegation.
  • Prepare clear, evidence-based briefs and recommendations for revocation, conditions and closure orders.
  • Draft correspondence, operational reports and ministerial material that are concise and legally defensible.
  • Maintain accurate case records and manage workflow through licensing databases.
  • Escalate complex or sensitive matters and help resolve stakeholder issues.
  • Contribute to process improvements that increase efficiency and stakeholder confidence.

Who Will Thrive

  • Experienced in a high-volume regulatory or licensing environment.
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Strong attention to detail and an ability to apply legislation and policy consistently.
  • Able to manage competing priorities, work independently and collaborate as part of a small team.
  • Good IT skills, especially Word, Excel and record management systems.
  • Legal or administrative decision-making experience along with brief writing and reporting highly regarded.
