Sydney Children's Hospital is seeking to recruit a permanent part-time Clinical Neuropsychologist (28 hours per week) to work within the multi-disciplinary Neurodevelopmental Clinic (NDC). The Neuropsychologist will provide assessment services to children/ young people with chronic and/or complex medical conditions presenting with learning challenges. The Clinical Neuropsychologist will work closely with and be professionally supported by the Developmental Paediatrician and Speech Pathologist in the team. The Neuropsychologist will be a member of the Psychology Department and line managed by the Head of Psychology. The Psychology Department has an established culture of collegiality, respect, reflective practice, professional supervision and support.

What you'll be doing

The Clinical Neuropsychologist will work as part of the tertiary, multi-disciplinary Neurodevelopmental Clinic (NDC) to provide neuropsychological assessment services to patients of Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick (SCH) with chronic and/or complex medical conditions who present with comorbid learning challenges. The NDC is supported by a Developmental Paediatrician and Speech Pathologist. The Clinical Neuropsychologist will work collaboratively with the referring clinical team and NDC team to conduct a comprehensive assessment and provide feedback and recommendations to the family. The Clinical Neuropsychologist will prepare a comprehensive clinical report for the family and the referring team outlining the child's cognitive abilities and/or neurodevelopmental diagnosis(es) and detail recommendations to support the child in community and education -based settings to develop their functional skills.

The Clinical Neuropsychologist reports to the SCH Head of Psychology and is a member of the SCH Psychology Department. The Clinical Neuropsychologist will participate in peer supervision and be required to perform administrative and professional duties. Clinical support and supervision is also provided by the SCH Head of Neurodevelopmental Clinic and by Tumbatin Clinic.

  1. Full Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. Full endorsement with the Psychology Board of Australia in the area of Clinical Neuropsychology or eligible to progress to same with the Psychology Board of Australia.
  2. Minimum two-year full-time equivalent accredited postgraduate Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Neuropsychology.
  3. Clinical assessment experience with children/young people with neurodevelopmental disorders. Accreditation in Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule not essential, but favourable.
  4. Understanding of the neurodevelopmental comorbidities that can occur for children and young people with chronic and/or complex medical conditions.
  5. Demonstrated capacity to work respectfully and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  6. Demonstrated ability to manage caseload in a timely manner.
  7. Demonstrated professional communication (oral, written) and interpersonal skills.

Applicants currently enrolled in a combined Masters/PhD are eligible to apply if they have completed the equivalent of Masters degree requirements as part of the PhD pathway. Evidence of this is demonstrated by a completed PDEC-76 form and cover letter from the University confirming Masters degree requirements have been met.

Successful applicants who have completed the Masters degree or Masters degree requirements and are awaiting full registration from the Psychology Board of Australia will be paid at Year 2 of the Psychologist Scale until they have full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia, at which point they will commence on Year 1 of the Clinical Psychologist scale.
