The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.

About the Group

Schools and Regional Services (SRS) offers central, regional, and local expertise to enhance learning and development outcomes, supported by a diverse and geographically dispersed workforce. It comprises 17 areas within 4 regions, backed by 5 central office divisions, all collaborating to deliver improved outcomes for early childhood services, schools, communities, and learners, in line with Education State commitments. SRS regions serve as a bridge between the central office, schools, and service providers, ensuring smooth transitions for learners and achieving the department's ambitious targets. Each region includes divisions specialising in school performance, student wellbeing and early childhood support, working with area-based teams to tailor local interventions and practices. The 17 areas provide crucial insights into local trends and issues, facilitating effective policy and program development and driving child and learner outcomes across all services and programs.

This role is located in the Student Support Services Branch, Inner Gippsland Area, South Eastern Victoria Region, SRS. The Student Support Services Branch is a multi-disiplanary team responsible for a range of health and wellbeing services. The role reports to the Student Support Services Branch Manager.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for a qualified Social Worker to join the Inner Gippsland Student Support Services (SSS) team. SSS Social Workers assess and develop strategies to address emotional and mental health needs of children, young people and their families, within an educational context.

* Employment Type: Fixed Term, Full Time (1.0 FTE)

* Location: Inner Gippsland (based at Leongatha Office)

The Inner Gippsland SSS team is made up of Speech Pathologists, Psychologists, Social Workers Administration Support, Team Leader and Branch Manager. SSS work collaboratively with schools and an Area Health Wellbeing and Inclusion Workforce (HWIW) to support student emotional health and wellbeing.

As a member of this team, you will have access to a car to travel to various school locations (subject to availability), a laptop, an iPhone as well as access to an extensive assessment and resource library.

Attributes

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team to support students and teachers, SSS Social Workers provide comprehensive services to schools, to support student health and wellbeing. This can encompass a broad range of areas including: learning issues, behavioural issues, disabilities, mental health, school and work transitions, self-esteem, grief and loss, trauma, anger management, relationships, conflict, sexuality and drug/alcohol involvement.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

The successful applicant will possess a graduate or post-graduate qualification in Social Work which is acceptable for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and possess a current Australian Drivers' Licence and Working with Children Check.
