Position Summary

We are offering an opportunity for a Junior lawyer 0-5 PAE to lead our community program to gain valuable hands-on experience in a supportive working environment. Our lawyer position will prepare the successful candidate for a fulfilling career in areas of law where human interaction is key.  They will have day-to-day client interaction and perform varied and engaging work. They will take a lead role in coordinating the Service's volunteer lawyer program with the support of a legal administrator. The successful candidate will be a motivated individual seeking to develop their career and looking to be exposed to the diverse range of general and family law matters which affect people in our community.

Key position responsibilities and deliverables:

The main duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Conducting advice appointments with clients in person at Maroochydore, in our community outreach locations across the Sunshine Coast and Noosa region and on the phone.
• Assisting senior lawyers in the team with legal tasks and case work and conducting their own legal task and case load.
• Coordinating the Service's volunteer lawyer program.
• Assist with risk management responsibilities eg volunteer advice checking and follow-up.
• Raise awareness and build relationships with community partners.
• Participate in community development.
• Coordinate and present community legal education materials and activities.
• Participate in law reform activities.

Essential requirements

The successful applicant will have:

• Completed a law degree and has a practicing certificate as a lawyer in Queensland.
• Current Queensland Driver's License.
• A right to work in Australia (i.e. hold citizenship, permanent residency or a visa entitling applicants to work in Australia).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to client service.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Initiative and ability to work independently.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks.
• Ability to take direction, eagerness to learn and work as part of a small team.

Desirable requirements

• Unrestricted practising certificate
• Accreditation as a domestic and family violence duty lawyer
• Strong commitment to the principles of social justice.
• Previous history of volunteer/community work.
• Presently living on the Sunshine Coast.

Remuneration: Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services Industry Award 2010 – commensurate with experience
