The Role

McCullough Robertson is looking for a proactive, self-motivated individual with a growth mindset to join our dedicated Knowledge and Legal Excellence team.
Reporting to the Head of Risk Management and Compliance, you will play a key role in shaping the future of our firm's operational excellence. This is a permanent, full-time position.
Working in this role, you will contribute to the implementation and maintenance of quality management, risk management, and compliance systems. You will also work across other critical areas, including client intake and data governance, ensuring seamless compliance processes to safeguard and enhance the firm's success.
Key duties will include:
- Assisting with the implementation and maintenance of quality and risk management systems aligned with ISO9001 and ISO31000;
- Assisting the Ethics Committee in advising on potential legal and commercial conflicts;
- Advising lawyers on the application of the solicitors conduct rules and legal profession legislation;
- Assisting with new client intake processes including KYC and AML compliance
- Reviewing and providing advice on client agreements and supplier contracts;
- Assisting with firm wide governance, risk, and compliance matters, including privacy, data protection, and cyber security response plans;
- Assisting to update and maintain policies, conduct internal audits and deliver training to ensure exceptional client service;
- Developing trusted and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders throughout the firm including, General Counsel, Ethics Committee members, partners and staff.
Experience
As the successful candidate, you will be a qualified lawyer with a minimum of three years post-admission experience, preferably from a similar commercial law firm or an in-house legal team.
You will have:
- experience reviewing and drafting contracts and advising on regulatory compliance. Ideally you will have experience handling risk, compliance and ethical issues within a law firm;
- excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and commercial acumen;
- strong analytical, research and drafting skills;
- the ability both to collaborate seamlessly and build relationships with legal teams and colleagues across the firm, as well work autonomously when required; and
- a proactive mindset and the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks of varying sizes and competing deadlines.
