Overview of the Team
The Major Infrastructure Program (MIP) Team within the Regulatory Operations Group is responsible for the design, delivery and review of programs targeting major infrastructure projects. The team is part of the service delivery arm of Regulatory Operations Group and administers the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS) through a variety of prevention, assurance and enforcement activities.
The MIP program of work comprises the regulation of complex and high-profile construction projects across Australia that involve high-risk WHS matters.
Our regulatory approach includes conducting proactive monitoring and compliance activities and providing information and advice to stakeholders. These activities are informed by jurisdictional and industry intelligence, and risk- and evidence-based practices.
Priority focus areas are silica risks, construction safety and the management of contractors.
The Major Infrastructure Projects (MIP) team engages regularly with PCBUs, workers, Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs), unions and WHS regulators from other jurisdictions. The team seek to ensure compliance and support stakeholders by sharing better practice WHS initiatives.
Overview of the Role
As a Director, Major Infrastructure Team your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Develop and maintain an extensive understanding of Comcare's responsibilities, strategic objectives and operational outcomes, including how the agency impacts the wider political and community context.
- Proactively identify and manage strategic, emerging and operational risks and decide or escalate appropriately, including the provision of high-level advice and briefings to the team, Comcare executive and CEO.
- Engaging productively with stakeholders in their jurisdiction (be it geographically based or specific strategic priorities) to progress continuous improvement and compliance outcomes.
- Providing strategic leadership and direction to employees in relation to complex regulatory matters.
- Managing and maintaining high performance and ongoing development of employees within office and their program of strategic work.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of regulatory strategy and approach including identification of priorities and applicable regulatory responses, as well as allocation of appropriate resourcing.
- Deliver, manage and evaluate complex programs, projects and initiatives with a focus on achieving outcomes and leading continuous improvement and change.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma of Work Health and Safety, Diploma of Government Investigations, Diploma of Government (Workplace Inspection) or similar qualification.
- Knowledge of the construction industry.
Eligibility and Specific Conditions of Employment
Australian citizenship.
Character clearance (Australian Criminal History Check).
Employee Health Declaration.
Six months probationary period for new engagements.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 Security Clearance.
Specific Conditions:
- Frequent travel including overnight absences.
