This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about financial accuracy and enjoys working closely with both operations and leadership teams. As the company continues its impressive growth across Australia, you will play a pivotal part in strengthening financial systems, supporting daily operations, and ensuring compliance at every step. With a hands-on approach, you will be empowered to make a real difference, benefiting from direct access to senior leaders and a supportive team environment. The organisation offers long-term career prospects, flexible working opportunities, and the chance to contribute meaningfully as the business expands.

- Enjoy a collaborative and supportive workplace where your input is valued by both the operations team and senior leadership, fostering professional development.
- Benefit from flexible working opportunities and the ability to make a tangible impact on the company's continued success as it grows.
What You'll Do
As an Assistant Finance Manager, you will immerse yourself in the day-to-day financial operations of a busy depot within a growing national business. Your role will involve managing core accounting functions such as accounts payable, receivable, payroll administration, tax compliance, asset tracking, and management reporting. You will work closely with both the Operations Manager and senior leaders to ensure smooth financial processes that underpin operational success. By providing accurate data analysis and insightful recommendations, you will help guide key decisions that shape the future of the business. Your attention to detail will be crucial in maintaining compliance with statutory obligations while your proactive approach will support continuous improvement across all areas of finance. This position offers you the chance to develop your skills further in a supportive environment where your contributions directly influence company growth.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring all transactions are processed accurately and within required timeframes to maintain strong supplier and customer relationships.
- Manage banking activities including account reconciliations, guaranteeing that all financial records are up-to-date and discrepancies are resolved promptly.
- Administer payroll functions while ensuring full compliance with ATO obligations so that employees are paid correctly and statutory requirements are met.
- Prepare detailed management reports that provide valuable insights to support operational decision-making and drive business performance.
- Handle tax compliance responsibilities such as BAS preparation, SRO submissions, and ATO reporting to ensure the organisation meets all regulatory standards.
- Take charge of invoicing procedures, credit control measures, and debtor management to optimise cash flow and minimise outstanding balances.
- Track assets and equipment including CHEP/Loscam pallets, maintaining accurate records for operational efficiency and audit purposes.
- Provide ongoing financial support to the Operations Manager and leadership team by delivering timely information and practical solutions to emerging challenges.
What You Bring
To excel as an Assistant Finance Manager in this dynamic environment, you will bring proven experience from previous bookkeeping or accounting positions—ideally within transport or related sectors. Your technical expertise using Xero will allow you to handle complex financial transactions confidently while your deep knowledge of payroll administration ensures staff are always paid accurately and on time. You thrive when working collaboratively with others; your interpersonal skills foster trust among colleagues as you share insights or offer support. Your methodical approach means nothing escapes your notice—from reconciling accounts through to preparing comprehensive management reports. Adaptability is key: you respond well under pressure during peak periods yet remain focused on delivering quality results. Above all else, your commitment to upholding compliance standards makes you a dependable member of any finance team.
- A minimum of 3–5 years' experience in bookkeeping or accounting roles within similar industries is essential for this position.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Xero accounting software is required to manage daily financial tasks efficiently.
- Comprehensive understanding of payroll processes along with proven expertise in ATO compliance ensures seamless employee payments and regulatory adherence.
- Exceptional organisational abilities paired with high attention to detail enable you to manage multiple priorities without compromising accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills allow you to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organisation.
- A proactive mindset helps you anticipate potential issues before they arise while contributing positively to team outcomes.
- Experience managing tax compliance activities such as BAS preparation, SRO submissions, and ATO reporting is highly desirable for this role.
- Familiarity with asset tracking systems (including CHEP/Loscam) would be advantageous but not mandatory.
