About Popkin's

We're a small-batch, hand-crafted gourmet popcorn brand. Our 10 signature flavours are developed in-house from our own recipes. For Christmas, Popkin's has been invited to establish an activation (like a pop-up store) at the Myer Melbourne Giftorium throughout November and December. We're serving free fresh buttery popcorn and daily product tastings, and selling giftable popboxes and curated gift boxes.

The role

As a casual Popkin's Brand Ambassador, you'll be the friendly face of Popkin's in our Christmas activation: welcoming visitors, keeping the space humming, making fresh popcorn, offering tastings and helping customers choose the perfect flavours and gift boxes. You won't process sales, as Myer staff will handle transactions.

The shifts

• 12pm-4pm on Saturdays and 12pm-4pm on Sundays, possibly extending to 10am-7pm on one or both days during peak Christmas shopping times.
• Half-day paid training prior to the commencement of the activation opening.

What you'll do

• Delight visitors: greet every customer warmly; offer free freshly-made popcorn and daily tastings.
• Product guidance: explain flavours, ingredients, dietary and allergen information; make confident recommendations.
• Fresh popcorn preparation: safely operate the popcorn machine; manage batches and portioning; keep hot surfaces/oil areas safe.
• Tastings hygiene: set up compliant sampling (gloves and single-use cups), refresh as needed.
• Standards and presentation: keep the activation clean, tidy and beautifully merchandised throughout the day.
• Stock flow: replenish shelves; collect stock from storeroom; rotate stock; check promotional tickets and signage.
• Safety and compliance: follow food-safety procedures, store policies and OH&S at all times.
• Know the brand: learn all 10 flavours and gift box options; stay across any promotions.
• Teamwork: communicate clearly with Popkin's teammates and department store staff; help wherever needed.

You'll be great at this if you…

• Are naturally welcoming, upbeat and customer-first.
• Communicate clearly and can explain flavours, ingredients and dietary points simply.
• Stay organised in a busy, high-traffic environment and keep standards high.
• Are happy to stand for long periods.
• Are punctual, reliable and collaborative.
• Are capable of working independently but are able to take directions.

Nice to have

• Food-handling or food-safety experience/certificate.
• Retail, events, hospitality or brand-ambassador experience.
• Confidence using simple checklists and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Comfortable working with heated equipment.

Health, safety and compliance

• Follow safe operation of hot-oil popcorn equipment and cleaning procedures.
• Maintain strict sampling hygiene and allergen separation as instructed.
• Adhere to department store policies.

Personal presentation and uniform

• Tidy grooming; closed toe, comfortable footwear; long hair tied back; minimal fragrance; no dangling jewellery.
• Black or white top (or dress), and black pants/skirt; knee-length shorts only.
• Apron provided for each shift.

Success in this role looks like

• Visitors are welcomed within 5 seconds, offered popcorn tastings and leave smiling.
• Display stays full, tidy and on-brand; tastings are replenished hygienically.
• Confident, accurate answers to dietary/allergen questions.
• Zero safety incidents; equipment cleaned to standard every time.

What we provide

• Paid training on: product knowledge, dietary/allergen matrix, gift box options, sampling hygiene, popcorn machine operation and cleaning, stock routines and promotions.
• Reference material for product ingredients, dietary information and gift box products.
• Clear SOPs and checklists for opening/closing, sampling, cleaning and stock.
• Staff discount on Popkin's products (at our Elwood store or online only).

Pay: $17.93 – $41.83 per hour
