Allocations Officer

  • $99,754 per annum + 12% superannuation
  • Full Time, 6 month fixed term opportunity
  • Wadawurrung / Geelong based role (Hybrid work from home - 3 days a week in office)

About the role

The Allocations Officer will be responsible for evaluating legal pleadings served in accordance with the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013 and the Accident Compensation Act 1985, to ensure that they fulfil the requisite statutory obligations and Ministerial Directions requirements and identify and recommend opportunities for improvement in relation to the management of pre-litigated and litigated claims.

Further, the person in this role will be required to assess, negotiate and resolve basic legal cost claims, undertake a variety of database searches and participate in a broad range of projects across the Division to support the Dispute Management Division in meeting its objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the allocation of new legal instructions (allocations) to WorkSafe's panel of legal service providers, including reviewing pre-litigated claims and common law applications, and statutory benefits and common law litigation.
  • Ensuring relevant statutory pre-requisites have been met; identifying the appropriate panel lawyers, in accordance with WorkSafe's allocations model, having regard to the contents of the application/litigation and available data.
  • Ensuring compliance and data recording requirements on WorkSafe's data systems are me and generating allocations correspondence.
  • Liaise with WorkSafe's Impairment Benefits team and plaintiffs' solicitors to seek clarification regarding the validity of common law claims lodged in accordance with Division 2, Part 7 of the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013 and sections 134AB of the Accident Compensation.
  • Act as a point of contact for WorkSafe's legal panel firms and internal colleagues in relation to the management of pre-litigated and litigated claims and data integrity and compliance issues providing assistance and advice where required.
  • Assist in undertaking VicRoads searches in accordance with VicRoads Information Protection Agreement (IPA).

About you

You have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse array of stakeholders and a demonstrated ability to read and understand legal documents with a strong attention to detail and the ability to comply with relevant legal and procedural requirements.

You will also possess:

  • Technical understanding of the processes surrounding legislative statutory entitlements;
  • Ability to liaise and advise legal pracititioners/representatives about compliance with their statutory obligations.
  • Sound problem-solving skills and judgement skills to escalate or address issues autonomously.
  • Tenacity in overcoming obstacles and taking the initiative to recommend and develop solutions to enhance learning and development.
  • Adapatability to the variations in workflow and demands.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan, prioritise work and meet prescribed deadlines.
  • Intermediate-advanced computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, email and sound knowledge of WorkSafe's ACCtion system.

Qualifications

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and expertise working in an Insurance and/or Legal environment and relevant qualification or significant experience working in these areas highly desirable.
