About the role:
We are seeking a prosecutor who thrives in a fast-paced environment and embraces legal innovation. The incumbent should be skilled in mentoring and confident in forensic analysis in order to support the team's mandates of early resolution and implementing creative ways of working to support the business of the OPP and its stakeholders.
Your expertise will be essential as you:
- Independently analyse and prepare indictable prosecutions
- Lead the preparation of complex trials, including major taskforce investigations.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, police, Crown Prosecutors, and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP)
- Demonstrate your commitment to the principles of the Victims' Charter Act 2006, with a focus on active and early engagement with victims and witnesses.
- Manage your own large and diverse caseload, from committal stage through to trial.
- Mentor and guide junior solicitors, sharing your knowledge and helping to build the next generation of legal talent.
- Champion innovation and new ways of working, contributing to our ongoing digital transformation.
- Be willing and able to appear in your own matters and matters carried by the team.
Your expertise will be demonstrated by:
- Extensive knowledge of criminal law, procedure, and evidence.
- Proven ability to prepare for and appear in complex criminal matters.
- Strong leadership skills and a passion for mentoring others.
- High-level interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with a wide range of stakeholders, from police and witnesses to Counsel and members of the public.
- A proactive and agile mindset, ready to embrace innovation and find creative solutions.
