About the role:

We're looking for skilled and passionate Senior Solicitor Advocates to join our team in Melbourne. This is an exceptional opportunity for lawyers who thrive in the courtroom, with a significant portion of their time dedicated to appearing in a diverse range of matters across the Magistrates' and County Court criminal jurisdictions.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Handling everything from Magistrates' Court list work and contested hearings to complex matters in the County Court, including pleas, appeals, and specialist court appearances.
  • Representing clients in unique and challenging environments such as the County Koori Court, Drug and Alcohol Treatment Court, and the Children's Court.
  • Conducting high-level legal research and analysis, draft submissions, and work closely with Crown Prosecutors to build strong cases.
  • Sharing your expertise by assisting and mentoring junior solicitor advocates, helping to shape the next generation of legal professionals.

This role is based in Melbourne, but we may require occasional travel to regional Victoria, with all travel expenses and accommodation provided. We also offer flexible working arrangements, including part-time options.

You will have:

  • Extensive Legal Expertise: A comprehensive knowledge of criminal law, procedure, evidence, and sentencing.
  • Courtroom Confidence: Demonstrated experience as an advocate in various criminal jurisdictions, with a strong ability to manage all facets of court appearances.
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills: The ability to build effective relationships and communicate clearly with judges, prosecutors, police, and other legal professionals.
  • A Commitment to Mentorship: A desire to guide and influence junior staff, helping them to develop their skills and careers.
