Casual Disability Support Worker – Illawarra Region

Job Title: Casual Disability Support Worker – Illawarra Region
We're looking for legends who can bring a smile, handle a hoist, and survive a WhatsApp group chat without rage-quitting.
About Us
National Disability Care is growing in the Illawarra, and we want more good humans on our team.
We're not your "work family" (let's be real, that's usually code for toxic drama). We're a fun, trusting, meme-sharing, drama-free crew who communicate well, back each other up, and make a genuine difference for our participants.
Our Director works directly with the team, we keep things real, and we believe work should feel like you're part of something good, not just a shift you're counting down.
About the Role
This is a casual role supporting NDIS participants across the Illawarra region. You'll be providing person-centred support in participants' homes and out in the community, including:
- Personal care
- Domestic support
- Transport
- Social and community activities
Hours will vary from week to week. Some weeks will be quiet, others will keep you busy, so it's perfect if you like flexibility and don't panic when the roster isn't full.
We also have occasional "float" shifts when things pop up last minute, so being able to jump in is a big win.
We use WhatsApp for team updates, training, and meetings updates, so you'll need to be cool with group chats that are sometimes work… and sometimes just memes.
What We're Looking For
We want team members who:
- Communicate well and can work solo or in a team
- Are reliable (seriously, this is non-negotiable)
- Bring good vibes to their shifts
- Understand casual hours can vary and are fine with that
- Can handle last-minute changes without spiralling into chaos
Essential Requirements
- Manual handling & hoist/lifter experience
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Current First Aid & CPR certification
- Working With Children Check (WWCC)
- NDIS Workers Orientation Module completed
- Valid driver's licence & reliable vehicle
- Australian working rights
Desirable
- Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability, or Community Services
- Previous disability support experience
Pay Rates
- Base Rate: $35.15 per hour
- Saturday: $49.21 per hour
- Sunday: $63.27 per hour
- Afternoon Shift (Mon–Fri, after 8pm to midnight): $38.67 per hour
- Active Night Shift (Mon–Fri, midnight to 6am): $39.37 per hour
- Inactive Night Shift (10pm–6am): $120 lump sum per shift
- Public Holiday: $77.33 per hour
Benefits
- Flexible casual hours
- Supportive team culture (minus the "we're a family" guilt trips)
- Travel reimbursement for participant kms
- Ongoing professional development opportunities
- Regular communication & connection
How to Apply
Click Apply and submit your resume through Indeed or email
Shortlisted candidates will receive an invitation to pick an interview time that suits them through Indeed's scheduling system.
Job Type: Casual
Pay: From $35.15 per hour
Expected hours: 1 – 20 per week

- One of your participants is really looking forward to a beach day, but when the day comes it's raining sideways. How would you talk with them about changing plans, keep them engaged and positive, and communicate the change with your director, so they are updated?
- If a participant you're supporting suddenly feels unwell during a community outing, what steps would you take, and who would you contact first?
