Shift Supervisor

Position

You assume a leadership role in overseeing the efficient operation of machinery and ensuring the safety of workspaces. Reporting to the Production Supervisor, your primary purpose is to supervise the production team, fostering a culture of safety, productivity, and continuous improvement. Leading toolbox meetings, you ensure that all team members are clear on their duties for the shift. Clear and concise communication is a key aspect of your role, especially during shift handover meetings, ensuring continuity of information to the next shift manager. This position undertakes a variety of tasks and requires the incumbent to display common sense and flexibility.

Qualifications

· Experience with complex machinery, mechanically minded.

· Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role in a production environment.

· Forklift license

Skills experience & knowledge

· Proven leadership and supervisory skills in a production environment.

· Plastic industry experience preferred

· Strong communication skills for effective team coordination and information transfer.

· Knowledge of machinery operation and production processes.

· Understanding of health and safety regulations and hazard identification.

· Training and development skills to enhance the skills of the production team.

· Ability to work in a diverse team including professional personnel.

· A strong eye for detail, precision, and accuracy

· Strong time management skills coupled with the ability to work autonomously.

· A high degree of patience to complete tasks precisely and efficiently

· Ability to use own initiative.

Main Duties

· Supervise the production team to ensure the efficient operation of machinery and the safety of workspaces.

· Lead toolbox meetings, providing clear guidance on duties for the shift.

· Communicate effectively during shift handover meetings to ensure continuity of information.

· Monitor operators to ensure machines are working at optimal output levels.

· Vigilantly monitor for hazards and health & safety issues, taking prompt corrective action.

· Train operators to continually improve work methods and enhance overall efficiency.

· Report safety and maintenance issues promptly to the relevant teams.

· Maintain close communication with the Maintenance team to coordinate repairs and maintenance required on machinery.

· Other duties as required

Communication

· Communicate with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, and other external sources. This information can be exchanged in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail

Health & Safety

· Ensure risk management plans and safe work methods are implemented as required

· Ensure potential hazards are reported, documented and acted upon to remove or minimize risks

· Conduct regular meetings with supervisors to discuss and act on any new and recurring OH&S issues

· Maintain accurate records for review
