The Client
S H & C A Tuck is an Australian-owned pig livestock farm enterprise located in Tocumwal in New South Wales.
They are now looking for an experienced Pig Farmer to join their team.
The Role
The position is for a Pig Farmer on a full-time basis with an annual salary set between $76,000 to $78,000 plus superannuation.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, control, coordinate and perform farming to raise livestock.
- Monitor the health of pigs in the piggery.
- Continuously monitor the feeding opportunities for pigs so that they are kept moving to optimize the feeding opportunities.
- Liaise with production Nutritionist to optimize the quality and herd performance which includes providing nutrition full feeding to livestock.
- Liaise with production Veterinarian to monitor and optimize the herd health, performance and condition of pigs.
- Provide training and supervision to farm staff in dealing with livestock.
- Perform general farming activities such as maintaining structures, fences, equipment, sheds, water supply systems, pest control programs and activities.
- Collect data and record information to help stock and inventory control.
- Daily inspect the health of pigs, ensuring that livestock is raised with company Herd Health plan.
- Organize the sale, purchase ad transportation of livestock.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Agriculture
- At least 3 years of experience as Pig Farmer in a commercial capacity
- Must have 3 years' experience and knowledge of pig genetics to optimize breeding programs and enhance desirable traits
- At least 3 years of knowledge and experience in formulating and adjusting pig diets based on nutritional requirements and growth stages
- At least 3 years' experience in pig biosecurity, disease prevention, and animal welfare
- Knowledge of relevant industry guidelines
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Basic knowledge of using computers
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Maintain healthy relationships with staff, internal and external stakeholders.
- Practicing safe work practices
- Must be physically fit as job requires performing physically demanding tasks.
- Proven track record of reliability- references required
- Demonstrated knowledge of the best safe work practices
