Primary objective

Under the direction of the principal and senior staff provide both operational and general administrative support services for the

school. Assist in the daily operational needs, as required, to support young people in a busy and demanding school environment.

Context statement

Borroloola School is in the township of Borroloola, 990km southeast of Darwin. The population is approximately 1000. There are

four main clans: Garrawa, Mara, Yanyuwa and Gurdanji. The two main languages are Yanyuwa and English. Borroloola can be

accessed by a sealed bitumen road all year round or via air through regular passenger transport flights. Borroloola School provides

education to students from 0 (FAFT) to Preschool to Year 12 and Pathways Programmes for students in 10, 11 and 12.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Deliver professional office reception and administrative duties including greeting visitors, managing email accounts, answering

calls and delivering messages while abiding by the confidentiality restraints surrounding the school.

2. Manage the repair and maintenance of school facilities including reporting repairs required and the coordination of contractors

and others engaged in work within the school grounds.

3. Provide administrative support to the front office, the principal and teaching staff including word processing, data entry,

administrative and other tasks as directed by the principal, senior staff, and Business Manager.

4. Manage and complete a range of administrative tasks including word processing, photocopying, bookbinding, laminating and

SAMS entry in a timely manner.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Sound written and oral communication, organisational skills and demonstrated ability and experience in providing administrative

support, managing petty cash, managing work schedules and adjusting priorities to meet deadlines.

2. Ability to work within a cross-cultural school environment, interact effectively with people from diverse cultures and

successfully develop effective partnerships with students, parents and colleagues.

3. The ability to work with initiative both independently and as part of a team, maintain integrity and confidentiality, be flexible

and converse confidently.

Desirable

1. Current First Aid Qualification or ability to obtain.

2. Drivers License

  1. Previous experience working within a NT School environment in an administrative assistant role.
