We are looking for a talented UX/UI digital designer who has an appetite for developing software application interfaces (from the user experience through to the User Interface Design) that are used by some of the leading engineering companies in the world. Companies ranging from NASA, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and the US Defence Force to name but a few. This is a role with strong international reach that has the potential to showcase your work around the globe.

About the role

This role covers all aspects of the UI/UX discipline and some of the more traditional design requirements like marketing material and website development. However, the majority of the role (95%+) is to understand the user journeys, customer challenges (problem definition), customer interactions and reflect the requirements of key personas in an interface that will meet the application/customer objectives.

You will be the lead UX individual with the company and will look to build a UX team over the longer term. As the custodian of the customer journey map and customer experience you will be seen as the subject matter expert. Your responsibilities will include gathering user requirements, designing graphic elements through a design framework, building navigation components, refining task pathways and interface designs that help deliver the right user experience as well as manage the design thinking process for solving problems amongst key groups internally with he PHM Technology team bringing external individuals to broaden the problem solving pool as needed.

To be successful in this role, you should have experience with design software, customer journey mapping to a high level, wire-frame tools, prototyping while having at least 5 years' experience in user experience project management. If you also have a portfolio of professional design projects that includes work with software & web applications, we'd like to meet you.

Ultimately, you'll create the UX for both functional and appealing features that identify and define customer challenges and propose possible solutions that address our customer needs through Design Thinking and help us grow our customer base.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Gathering and evaluating user requirements in collaboration with product managers and engineers.
  • Create, define and refine customer journey mapping.
  • Create high fidelity prototypes for concept development, testing and communicate to Development teams.
  • Illustrating design ideas using storyboards, process flows and sitemaps.
  • Create design framework to support and drive UI, like menus, tabs and widgets.
  • Create original graphic designs (e.g. images, sketches and tables)
  • Prepare and present rough drafts to internal teams and key stakeholders
  • Identify and troubleshoot UX problems (e.g. responsiveness)
  • Conduct layout adjustments based on user feedback
  • Develop style guides and then ensure adherence to style standards on fonts, colors and images
  • Create high-fidelity (production ready) interface design and marketing support collateral
  • Work with Engineering team & Development teams to communicate your UX requirements and knowledge.

You will have:

  • Proven work experience (Minimum 5 years) as a UI/UX Designer or similar role.
  • Portfolio of projects where you were the lead UX person.
  • Portfolio of design projects where you were the lead designer.
  • Knowledge of wire-frame tools (e.g. , XD & InVision).
  • Up-to-date knowledge of design software like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Team spirit; strong communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders.
  • A desire to be in-office and help set, and be part of the culture.
  • Good time-management skills.
  • Bachelors Degree in Design (minimum) or a relevant field.

Work From Home

We offer the flexibility to work from home up to 2 days per week (with the potential for more by agreement) once you've completed the initial qualifying period. Because our software and industry involve a steep learning curve, in-office collaboration with our team is essential at the start.
