Nyrstar has mining, smelting and other operations located in Europe, the Americas and Australia and employs over 4,000 people. The company's global operations are located close to key customers and major transport hubs to facilitate delivery of raw materials and distribution of finished products.
Nyrstar Hobart is a large scale zinc smelter located on Hobart's River Derwent, only a few kilometres from the Tasmanian capital's charming and cosmopolitan city centre. The facility uses the RLE process for zinc production. Hobart's key products are SHG zinc, die cast alloys and continuous galvanising grad (CGG) alloys. In addition, the site produces by-products of cadmium, copper sulphate, paragoethite, lead sulphate, leach concentrate and sulphuric acid. This is a rare opportunity to work on site in the resources industry, in a capital city location
We are seeking a proactive and strategic Procurement Specialist to play a key role in keeping our world-class operations running at peak performance. You'll source essential goods, services, and equipment, drive value through smart purchasing strategies, build strong supplier partnerships, and deliver cost-effective solutions that make a real impact. What you'll do:
- Planning and sourcing strategy development.
- Sourcing / procurement of goods, services and equipment in support of daily operations and capital projects.
- End-to-end tendering, including development and issue of tender packages, clarifications, evaluation and award.
- Leading contract negotiations, including drafting of contractual clauses to suit final negotiated positions.
- Ensure effective roll out and implementation of key contracts with end users, including setup of appropriate KPIs and financial tracking throughout the contract term.
- Drafting of general commercial documentation and facilitation of general commercial / contractual requirements in post-award period.
- Post-award dispute / claim resolution and managing contractor and internal stakeholder relationships.
- Drafting and issue of all types of contract notices, including variations, terminations and novations.
What you'll bring:
- 5+ years' experience in a similar role or industry (resources, manufacturing or heavy industry preferred).
Solid understanding of contract law with skills in contract drafting and negotiation.
Familiarity and experience sourcing a broad range of goods and services using a variety of contracting tools and models.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills particularly MS Word and Excel (required).
- SAP experience highly regarded.
- Proven category management expertise, including market intelligence, analysis, contract administration, and end-to-end negotiation.
