Adelaide, South Australia Department for Infrastructure and Transport, South Australia Full time $100,000 - $110,000 per year

Department for Infrastructure and Transport

Job reference: 697904

Location: ADELAIDE

Job status: Ongoing

Eligibility: Open to Everyone

At the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, we are connecting South Australia to keep our State moving. We are responsible for delivering a multi-billion-dollar pipeline of transformative transport and social infrastructure projects, operating and maintaining thousands of kilometres of roads and managing our city's public transport network.

Our work encompasses every part of our State; from our cities to our regions, connecting and strengthening community. We value diversity and inclusion and foster an environment of collaboration, flexibility, and support for our staff.

The Opportunity

The Department is seeking a Mechanical Asset Management Engineer to play a key role in delivering marine and mechanical projects that support safe, reliable, and efficient transport services across South Australia. Reporting to the Unit Manager, Mechanical Marine, you will provide asset management services for the River Murray Ferry Fleet and State Tall Ships, ensuring compliance with both State and Federal requirements.

In this dynamic role, you will oversee the full lifecycle of infrastructure projects, including the design, manufacture, modification, deployment, and refurbishment of ferries, landings, ramps, and associated infrastructure. You will manage both the operational and financial aspects of these programs, ensuring resources are used effectively to achieve high-quality outcomes.

You will lead and guide a multidisciplinary team of engineering, technical, operational, administrative, and workshop professionals, while working collaboratively with Procurement and Contracting, external contractors, and other government agencies. Your expertise will support strategic decision-making, drive continuous improvement, and maintain high standards of safety, compliance, and customer service.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer with strong project management and leadership skills to influence the future of South Australia's marine infrastructure and deliver outcomes that benefit the community.

About You

You are a qualified and experienced engineering professional with deep expertise in marine and mechanical infrastructure. You understand the importance of safe, reliable transport assets and bring a strong focus on compliance, innovation, and community outcomes.

Your sound judgement and initiative enable you to address complex engineering and operational challenges, delivering practical and well-informed solutions within departmental frameworks and regulatory requirements. You have significant experience in managing asset management programs, coordinating resources, and guiding the performance of multidisciplinary teams to achieve high-quality results.

Collaborative by nature, you build strong relationships with colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders, supporting change, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement. With well-developed analytical and research skills, you provide expert advice, prepare clear and actionable reports, and contribute to strategic decision-making in environments with competing demands.

Your strong leadership, communication, and technical capabilities enable you to deliver outcomes that ensure the effective management of South Australia's ferry fleet, tall ships, and associated infrastructure, while supporting the Department's broader strategic objectives.
