Assistant Property Officer – Acquisitions

Logan City Council is seeking an Assistant Property Officer – Acquisitions to support the delivery of property acquisition projects for Council's capital works programs on a maximum term, part-time 3 days per week contract until December 31st, 2028. This role ensures compliance with statutory requirements and contributes to efficient, transparent processes that safeguard Council's interests.

In this role, you will assist the Project Acquisition Team by preparing legal documentation, managing financial transactions, and maintaining accurate records to support governance and reporting obligations.

Key indicators for success:

  • Support the management of property acquisition projects throughout their lifecycle, ensuring key milestones and deadlines are met.
  • Prepare and process statutory documentation, including Notices of Intention to Resume, Titles Office registrations, and transfer duty requirements.
  • Coordinate financial aspects of acquisitions, such as compensation payments and related claims, in line with Council's financial procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with Council governance obligations, policies, and statutory requirements across all acquisition activities.
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting to internal stakeholders to ensure transparency on project progress and expenditure.
  • Research, develop, and maintain property data and documentation to support acquisition projects and keep Council registers current.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by reviewing and refining processes, templates, and workflows for greater efficiency.
  • Assist in implementing program goals and priorities under the guidance of the Project Acquisition Team Leader.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to resolve property-related issues and support smooth project delivery.
  • Uphold confidentiality and deliver professional, courteous service in all interactions

You'll possess

  • Progression towards tertiary qualifications in property, law, business, or related discipline and/or equivalent experience.
  • A positive attitude, collaborative mindset and a passion for teamwork to ensure team outcomes are met
  • strong demonstrated attention to detail with knowledge and practical experience in the administrative processing of property acquisitions preferably in a local government context.
  • A desire to be collaborative, engaging and have the ability to communicate with a broad range of stakeholders to drive successful outcomes.
  • Broad understanding of the legislative framework for property resumptions (including resumption powers under Acquisition of Land Act 1967 (Qld) preferably within a local government context, and a broad understanding of the Local Government Act 2009 (Qld) and accompanying Regulations, Land Titles Act 1994 (Qld), and Land Act 1994 (Qld).
  • Demonstrated administrative experience in the preparation of documentation associated with the acquisition of property interests in Queensland, both by negotiation and using compulsory acquisition processes under the Acquisition of Land Act 1967 (Qld).
  • Current "C" class driver's licence.
  • Ability to pass an employment-related background check.
