A Safe and Healthy Work EnvironmentInclusiveness and RespectConsistency and FairnessTeamwork and Staff DevelopmentPerformance and Value for MoneyLeadership and CollaborationSustainabilityForward-lookingPosition ObjectiveThis position will be required to perform safe and efficient operation, maintenance and use of assigned plant,equipment and materials, and associated labouring duties, as directed in the execution of Council's civilconstruction and maintenance activities.Position ResponsibilitiesFunctionalities Key ResponsibilitiesPlant Operations • Carry out plant operations to a high standard of excellence, ensuringefficiency, quality and safety.Operate assigned plant and equipment, or as directed various plant inaccordance with operational requirements and competency.Plant Maintenance • Complete pre-start checks to ensure plant is safe to operate, includingbut not limited to, checking all warning lights and gauges, seatbelts, lights,indicators, and brakes.Undertake basic maintenance of plant in accordance with manufacturerrecommendations and workshop requirements.Ensure correct "shut down" procedure is observed, and plant is totallysecured prior to leaving the work site or Depot.Ensure machine operates efficiently and report to workshop anynecessary repairs, such as worn pins or bushes, damaged belts, or hoses,loose or broken studs and nuts.Ensure all safety guards are in place and secure, and all safetysigns/stickers are available and visible.Ensure cabins are clean and tidy, free of loose materials and windows areclean.Ensure tyres are correctly inflated and wear pattern is regular.Ensure machine is operated correctly and not used on inappropriatetasks.Operate all plant, tools, implements or equipment in a safe and effectivemanner.Relieve in other locations in the Council to cover absences, training etc.when required.Work outdoors in all weather conditions, with appropriate protectiveclothing.Labouring • Undertake manual handling of materials e.g. excavation and spreading ofmaterial associated with civil construction and maintenance.Operate a variety of handheld power tools.Set out temporary traffic control signage.Operate handheld compaction equipment.Ability to lift, carry and move heavy objects or equipment as required.Ensure tasks are performed in accordance with relevant work standardsand operating procedures.Ensure tasks are carried out in a reliable, efficient, and safe manner.Other • Other such relevant duties as required from time to time which wouldgenerally fall within the scope of this position as directed by youraccountable supervisor or the Director of Works.Carry out all duties in line with Council's Workplace Health and Safetypolicies and procedures and adhere to any legislative obligations Key RelationshipsInternalConstruction Supervisor The incumbent will have an effective and responsive working relationship withthe Construction SupervisorManagers – WorksCoordinator and Manager ofCivil Construction andMaintenance.The incumbent will have an effective and responsive relationship with theWorks Coordinator and Manager of Civil Construction and Maintenance.ExternalGovernment Agencies andClientsCommunications will be conducted in a professional manner in line withCouncils' Core ValuesPosition RequirementsSkills • Sound communication skills both written and oral, with the ability to deal with all levels of the organisationand members of the public.Strong time management, organisation and planning with an ability to prioritise and meet critical timeframes.Basic numeracy skills to perform calculations relevant to duties.Ability to follow directions and work within a team environment.Ability to carry out machine operation, daily servicing checks and basic maintenance as per operatorshandbook and workshop guidelines.Ability to read and interpret plans and traffic management standards.Knowledge• A thorough understanding of how to maintain a safe working environment with demonstrated experience inmanaging risks associated with road maintenance and construction.Knowledge of road regulatory and advisory signage.Sound Knowledge of construction and maintenance techniques, including operational work practices andstandards associated with the relevant work area.Mandatory Experience/Qualifications• Traffic Management Implementation.General Construction Induction card.Plant competency including: RollerDesirable Experience/Qualifications• Current Class "HR" Drivers Licence.Plant competency including: Excavator.
