About the Department

DFAT has a requirement for 1x Security Policy Specialist to develop new security policies for DFAT. A core responsibility of the department is the security and safety of its people, information and resources both domestically and overseas. The Diplomatic Security Division (DSD) plays a key role in the provision of protective security advice and support for the department and to this end, a high degree of importance is placed on the development and refinement of protective security policy for DFAT's domestic and global networks.

The role requires the ability to rapidly interpret policy contexts, purposes and scopes, and to work collaboratively with subject matter experts to develop and refine policy content through both individual stakeholder consultation and stakeholder workshops. The specialist will ensure that all policy development meets regulatory and/or legislative requirements while balancing the needs and requirements of the department.

A key aspect of the role involves identifying and understanding security policy interdependencies, meeting policy development milestones, and producing supporting documentation-such as procedures and guidance-to assist with the effective implementation of policies.

An NV1 security clearance is essential for this role, with an NV2 clearance preferred. If the candidate holds only an NV1 clearance, they must be willing to undergo a security clearance upgrade to NV2.

Other ad hoc duties may be required from time to time, as directed by management.
