About the business

Allwest Plant Hire Australia is based in Forrestdale and has an opportunity for a casual, Perth based Low Loader Driver.

Being a critical role of the business, our drivers are responsible for delivering our plant and equipment to our clients on site and are the faces of the business. It is essential for us to have a driver who presents appropriately, is able to communicate professionally, and operates in a safe manner at all times.

About the role

Your duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: -

  • Transport mobile plant and construction equipment via use of various trucks up to quad trailer with dolly

  • Commitment to safety standards and Chain of Responsibility requirements at all times

  • Daily prestart checks on vehicles and equipment

  • Load & Unloading of various types of construction machinery and associated attachments (Unassisted)

  • Competently coupling & uncoupling various trailers and dolly

  • Able to safely & legally carry out oversize load jobs within Perth metro and remote WA

  • Restraining loads using chains, ratchet chains and straps

  • Manage fatigue in line with WA fatigue guidelines, wear the appropriate PPE, ensuring all actions are conducted in a safe manner.

  • Carry out maintenance on both truck & equipment where necessary

Skills and experience

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have the following attributes: -

  • MC licence with at least 2 years' experience driving floats within the Perth metro area utilising a tri-axle or quad & dolly set up

  • At least 2 years' experience loading and unloading a float with earthmoving equipment and plant, displaying confidence and ability to carry out unassisted.

  • A commitment to safety in everything you do

  • Good understanding of load restraint with machinery and equipment

  • Knowledge of Chain of Responsibility and road transport legislation

  • Effective reading, written & verbal communication skills to accurately complete paperwork

  • Knowledge of the Perth Metro & WA regional areas

  • Sound understanding of the WA fatigue management requirements and an ability to manage yourself within these requirements

  • High quality customer service and communication skills

  • Proven team player with the ability to take instruction and achieve a result in a timely manner

  • Be a self-starter, can work autonomously as required, organised and able to prioritise work utilising own initiative

  • Able to deal with short notice for jobs of an urgent nature

  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical assessment including Drug & Alcohol test

  • Current Police clearance certificate (no older than 6 months)

  • Current WA Fatigue management certificate

  • Current Commercial Vehicle Driver's Medical certificate, or be willing to get one
